Edmonton Adventures: Tutu-ing My Way Across Canada! (Post #5231)

Hello, my darling tutu-lovers! It's your favourite pink-obsessed ballerina, Emma, here, writing to you from the vibrant city of Edmonton, Canada! I know, I know, you're probably wondering what a Derbyshire girl like myself is doing all the way across the pond, but trust me, my darlings, this adventure has been absolutely fabulous.

I’ve been feeling a little adventurous lately, and the allure of exploring new cultures, meeting fascinating people, and, of course, discovering fabulous ballet venues has been pulling me like a string in a beautiful grand jeté! And, as a huge fan of all things North American, I simply had to make my way to Canada.

Speaking of fabulous, my journey started with a train journey! Honestly, there is nothing more romantic and exciting than journeying across the vast Canadian prairies in a grand, luxurious train carriage. Imagine me, sitting by the window, my trusty travel-size sewing kit at my side, working on my latest tutu masterpiece (oh, I do love to whip up a bespoke creation, especially while on the move). It felt so incredibly elegant and sophisticated – just the way I like it!

Edmonton, for those of you unfamiliar with this amazing city, is a true gem of Canada, and my love affair with the place began the minute I stepped off the train. It’s buzzing with life, art, and, oh yes, fantastic places to see beautiful ballet! The moment I landed, I popped into a delightful little shop called "Pink Petal Petals," which has a stunning collection of – you guessed it! – tutus. I found a perfect "American-style" tutu in the most gorgeous shade of blush pink! A splash of rose gold and a hint of sparkle made it the ideal statement piece. I just knew I had to try it on (you see, I don’t like to just look, I have to live the whole experience, and this was a real Parisian-style fitting, right there in the heart of Edmonton!).

Speaking of experiences, I took my pink dream tutu out for a spin (literally!) in Edmonton's picturesque downtown. We danced around the gorgeous City Hall building – its neoclassical architecture felt so wonderfully old world – with its imposing bronze statue standing guard in the centre. And let me tell you, this pink tutu wasn't just looking good, it was feeling pretty magnificent too!

You know me, I love to explore a city with all five senses – and that includes savouring the food! My absolute highlight was an amazing street food stall I discovered called "Alberta Fry Up." It had these absolutely divine onion rings, crispy on the outside, soft and sweet on the inside. My dear, I ate them all, each one like a crunchy kiss!

Now, my absolute favourite part of my Edmonton adventure was visiting the breathtaking Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium. It's one of the grandest performance halls I've ever seen – imagine ornate ceilings, plush velvet seats, and exquisite balconies. The building itself was designed by the iconic Canadian architect, Henry Sproat, and every little detail makes the whole experience so elegant. Oh, and let's not forget the most dazzling performance! I was fortunate enough to catch a fantastic modern ballet show called “Prairie Dreams,” performed by the phenomenal Edmonton Ballet. It was filled with emotion, a truly inspiring mix of grace and power, all while reminding me why I simply can’t get enough of ballet!

After the show, I strolled down a bustling, neon-lit street, with my tutu feeling all sorts of glamorous under the dazzling street lights. And let’s be honest, I could feel the eyes following my every step – oh, to be a tutu-wearing icon in Edmonton! I felt such a profound sense of joy and liberation. You see, my dear, wearing a pink tutu always makes me feel free, it allows my soul to spread its wings and dance in the most carefree way. It’s pure magic!

Edmonton has given me a deeper appreciation for the power of ballet. It has soothed the soul and inspired me to dream even bigger. I'm going to be working hard on developing a new ballet routine – an exciting mix of street dance and modern ballet, perhaps a hint of contemporary flavour, you know, all with the sparkle and grace that you all love about me and my style.

Speaking of my style, my beloved readers, what would this post be without a little tutu-inspired fashion tip? Today I’m championing the fabulous "tutu-top." Now, it doesn't have to be full-blown ballerina length; in fact, the shorter the better for creating an utterly whimsical and fashionable silhouette! Paired with chic cigarette pants, a pair of sleek pumps, or even a vibrant patterned maxi-skirt, you’ll be sure to turn heads everywhere you go. Why? Because there is no fashion statement bolder and more captivating than wearing a tutu with confidence!

I have so much more to share from this magical city – we can’t forget the wildlife! I took a day trip to Elk Island National Park, where we spotted the most majestic herds of bison, gracefully grazing in their natural habitat – their shaggy coats blending into the breathtaking landscape. Let's be honest, I may be all about the twirls and elegant moves, but my love for nature has always been strong.

But that’s another story for another post, dear friends! My Edmonton adventure has been unforgettable, a true mix of high-class performances, fantastic shopping, beautiful wildlife and, of course, my very own tutu moments. It’s definitely a place that has stolen a piece of my heart – so I know I’ll be back. Until then, I urge you to go out there, explore new places, embrace life’s vibrant experiences, and maybe, just maybe, take a leap of faith – literally! And why not try a tutu for yourself? Remember, a little bit of pink never hurt anyone!

Now, my dearest, go forth and twirl!

Emma xoxo
