Crosby: A Feathery Fairytale in Pink

Darling readers,

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! Did you all have a wonderful festive season filled with mince pies, baubles, and enough turkey to feed a small army? I, for one, definitely did, and it felt utterly magical. After all that indulgence, it was time for a little adventure – and a journey that began with a very important question… What's better than one tutu? Why, TWO, of course! And when one of those tutus is made entirely from feathers, you've hit the jackpot!

Now, my lovely friends, I must confess, I have a weakness. It's not chocolates, it's not fancy shoes, and it's not even handsome ballet dancers… gasps Though, let's be honest, there is a special place in my heart for all of them. But the thing that truly makes my heart skip a beat? Feathers! And this feathered beauty was absolutely irresistible, all soft and fluffy, practically begging to twirl with me!

My adventure took me to the seaside town of Crosby, which, believe it or not, is not all windswept dunes and rusty bucket-and-spade charm. No, Crosby has something far more magical – Antony Gormley’s "Another Place," a stunning collection of over 100 iron statues, resembling life-size figures, standing sentinel on the sands. And I, well, I had to dance with them!

Imagine this – the sky a crisp winter blue, the salty air kissing my cheeks, and the wind ruffling my feathers, creating an elegant ballet of nature. I stood in front of one of the figures, its weathered surface echoing my own sense of adventure. It was as if it were calling out to me, asking me to join its silent dance across the coastline.

Naturally, I couldn't resist the urge! A pirouette, a grand jeté – I even threw in a couple of fancy pas de bourrees for good measure! All this in my pink-feathered glory, the bright pink against the stark grey backdrop of the figures creating a playful, vibrant contrast. I felt like a fairytale princess waltzing across a whimsical land – with just a touch of a Derbyshire girl in me, of course!

Later that day, I was lucky enough to find a charming café with mismatched vintage furniture and enough pastel colours to satisfy any pastel-loving ballerina like myself. I enjoyed a pot of tea (pinky raised, naturally) with a generous slice of cake, while watching the sunset paint the sky in hues of pink and orange. Truly, I had been swept away into a little dream, one that only a pink-tutu-wearing dancer could appreciate.

I have always been a firm believer that beauty can be found in the most unexpected places. Crosby proved that sentiment to be utterly true! Not only were there amazing sculptures and dreamy views, there was also a strong sense of history in the area, with old seaside homes standing stoic against the unyielding sea. I spent hours walking along the seafront, watching the waves crashing against the shore. And, you won’t believe this, I even spotted a seals sunbathing on a nearby rock. Can you imagine, dear readers? A seaside ballet class with sea creatures as spectators? What an unforgettable experience!

So, dear readers, I hope this adventure inspires you to seek out beauty and wonder wherever you go, even in unexpected places. Just remember, life is a dance – don’t forget to twirl and twirl often!

Until next time, darling!

Love, Emma
