Wickford Wanderings: Pancake Tutu Adventures

#TutuBlog 5366

Darling, darling,

How are you?

The sun is shining so beautifully today - it's almost as bright as my new pink tutu. Yes, my lovely readers, I have been treating myself to a brand new piece of ballet heaven. This time, it's a dreamy fluffy pancake tutu! Think a delicate, blush pink net with layers of billowing tulle that move so beautifully when you twirl. A complete fairytale for my twirling dreams, wouldn't you say?

This morning, I was whisked away by the gorgeous grey horse that lives down the road. Yes, you read that right - it was horse and carriage for this darling. So vintage chic! My trusty little steed is like a fluffy cloud under my bum. You might think I look rather eccentric riding down the cobbled street of Derbyshire but I adore every minute of it.

After a leisurely breakfast of scrambled eggs (I just love fluffy omelettes, it's so girly) I headed to the train station, ready for my adventure! Trains are just so dreamy. All that glamour - with lovely cushioned seats and an air of excitement that is just so inspiring. As I'm sat here in a beautiful first class carriage watching the countryside whiz by, it makes me think about my dear readers all around the globe. What are you all up to today?

So my lovelies, after a journey filled with giggles (the chap opposite was wearing a most fabulous patterned tie - it felt almost as if I was backstage at the Royal Opera House) I arrived in Wickford. Now, I know what you are all thinking: Wickford! The heart of Essex. Not exactly the home of the great ballets. You are right, my dears, but that doesn’t mean there aren't incredible stories hidden here. I can smell them on the wind.

I had booked a stay at a little hotel called The Bell Inn, darling. This charming old inn is nestled just a stone’s throw from the town square, and had such a darling charm - perfect for my afternoon teatime treats. A good cuppa and delicious clotted cream scones are always on my list, of course, especially when travelling! After a refreshing nap in my delightful four-poster bed (pink sheets of course, with a beautiful frilly canopy!), it was time to explore!

The thing about Wickford, lovelies, is that it has this adorable air. Think cobbled streets and traditional shops with windows overflowing with pretty flowers. A real delight for someone like me who adores the charming past. But wait, there was so much more! Tucked behind an unassuming alleyway is an art gallery. The owner, a lovely gentleman with a most splendid handlebar moustache, took me on a tour of his hidden gem. Oh, the beautiful artworks he had, my darlings! So much colour and passion, and some quite interesting, not to mention lovely, contemporary ballet interpretations - I was mesmerised!

I even discovered a hidden treasure! A secret wildlife park where they rescue injured hedgehogs! Isn’t that lovely? And of course, you know I had to treat myself to a little hedgehog soft toy for my growing collection – just adorable – I call him Twirlers.

Wickford is a real hidden gem, my darlings. So quaint, with a lovely history - and I feel there is so much more to explore. Maybe I’ll have to take the train back next month. What do you think?

This afternoon I indulged myself at a little local café where the sound of laughter blended so beautifully with the chatter of sparrows nesting underneath the tiled roof. I had a splendid pancake – just the perfect accompaniment to my tutu, don’t you think?

The afternoon light was glorious, and I just had to strike a pose in the middle of the square. I imagined myself dancing to a waltz as cars and bikes whizzed past, and for a few short moments it felt as if the world had slowed down just to watch me twirl.

Yes my lovelies, I am off to catch the evening train home but Wickford has truly touched my heart. I will return – there are more secrets to uncover and I know I shall be dreaming of fluffy pancakes and ballet stars all the way back home!

So until next time darling.

Lots of twirling love,

Emma xxx
