Nottingham: Tutu Tales and Pink-tinted Views

Hello my gorgeous ballet bunnies! It’s your favourite pink-loving tutu queen, Emma, here, signing in from sunny Nottingham for blog post number 5423! I hope you’re all twirling your way into the day with as much pizazz as I am. Today is all about a little ballet pilgrimage, a splash of pink, and a few fluffy thoughts.

Today, the train journey to Nottingham felt like a waltz. The rolling Derbyshire countryside, all green and sun-kissed, whizzed by like a backdrop in a magical ballet. I can't help but feel a little melancholic leaving my lovely home county but hey, ballet calls!

Once I arrived in the vibrant city of Nottingham, it was time for my first stop: a beautiful boutique tucked away on a cobbled street. It smelled of lavender and happiness and had racks of gorgeous outfits just begging to be twirled in. Of course, I couldn’t leave without adding a touch of pink to my ensemble - a vibrant, silky scarf with delicate rose embellishments - just the ticket for my ballet afternoon.

Now, this next bit, darling, was simply magical. I was invited to a ballet class hosted by the renowned Royal Ballet School, held in a building so grand and elegant it could have been straight out of a classic fairy tale. The other ballerinas were a dazzling group of women – graceful, powerful, and exuding a contagious love for the art. And, of course, they all knew their pliés from their pirouettes.

Being in that class, surrounded by that passionate energy, reminded me why I dance. It's not about perfection, it’s about joy, passion, and the magic of making your body move like an elegant symphony. You wouldn't believe the strength and artistry of those dancers. It was truly inspiring.

After the class, I popped into a nearby tea shop, a quintessential English affair filled with floral patterns and delicate china cups. They had the most scrumptious strawberry cake (in a pink dish, naturally!) which fuelled my ballet-loving spirit.

And speaking of spirits, the next leg of my journey led me to the beautiful Nottingham Theatre Royal, for an evening performance of ‘Giselle’. The entire performance was breathtaking, but it was the ballet dancers’ expressions, their elegant storytelling, and their absolute control of their bodies that really blew me away. The drama, the love story, the emotions - all conveyed with perfect poise. You could feel their hearts in every step.

It got me thinking about how we express ourselves. Just like a dancer pours their emotions into every movement, I believe in expressing ourselves in every part of our lives, even the small ones!

Think of your wardrobe. A splash of colour? A touch of lace? Maybe even a little pink tutu for a special occasion! Remember, darlings, ballet is more than just graceful movements; it’s about finding beauty within yourself and allowing that beauty to shine. And what’s a better way to showcase that beauty than by adding a dash of pink to your life?

And then came the icing on the cake – a surprise wildlife encounter. Walking back to my hotel, I was met with a delightful sight - a family of red squirrels scampering playfully up a majestic old oak tree in the centre of town. These adorable little creatures looked like they were practicing their own 'leaping ballet' on a branch, tails wagging, a vision of joy. It reminded me how magic and joy can be found even in the simplest of things.

So, my darling readers, that's it from Nottingham. Today, I fell in love with the city all over again, but even more, I fell in love with ballet, its joy, and its power to inspire.

What adventures have you been having lately? What's your go-to outfit for a special ballet occasion? Let me know in the comments!

I'm off to chase the last rays of sunset with my pink scarf swirling around me – maybe I’ll even try out a few twirls by a riverside. Stay fabulous, stay twirly, and stay pink!

Lots of love and ballet wishes,
