Derby Darling! - TutuBlog Post #5432

Hey everyone! It's Emma, back from my whirlwind trip to Derby, and I am just buzzing with excitement! This city has such a special place in my heart - it's where I was born, it's where my ballet journey truly began, and it always welcomes me with open arms, or rather, with open theatre doors!

Today's look, as you might expect, was very pink. I felt like I needed to make a proper statement after spending a whole week in rehearsals and rehearsals are, as you all know, usually black and grey! I paired a hot pink tutu with a silky blush-coloured camisole top. It flowed around me like a cloud - very elegant, very comfortable, very Emma! And my sparkly ballet flats were just the right touch of glitter, you know? Because sometimes, a girl needs a little sparkle!

My trusty steed, my gorgeous chestnut mare Belle, helped me traverse the beautiful Derbyshire countryside and deposited me directly at the city centre. I must admit, I've fallen in love with the trains in recent years, but Belle's velvety coat and her sweet little whinnies always remind me of my love for horses and the countryside - such a calming, magical world!

Speaking of magical, the theatre! I swear, they must sprinkle pixie dust around those grand old buildings. Just walking into the foyer gave me chills, I was practically dancing on air, all twirls and pirouettes, just waiting for the show to begin. The audience were buzzing with excitement, their smiles lighting up the room, and you could almost feel the passion for the dance in the air. It was intoxicating.

The show itself was fabulous. I saw Giselle for the first time and honestly, I am still mesmerized by the breathtaking artistry. The principal dancers were phenomenal, each movement like a feather, their emotions echoing through every leap and arabesque.

Afterwards, I met up with some old ballet friends, all gathered in a little tearoom near the theatre. The gossip flowed as freely as the tea! You know, the ballet world, even when you are out of the spotlight, is such a community, everyone knows each other and there’s this shared joy of being part of such a special artform.

Now, you know my life is always a whirlwind of tutus, travel, and ballet. It's no surprise, then, that I'm heading off to Edinburgh for a ballet weekend. Yes, you heard it right - a weekend entirely devoted to ballet, with ballet classes, shows, and of course, my trusty pink tutu in tow! I can't wait! I'll share my adventures and experiences with you all, just as soon as I return, So keep those tutus spinning, you fabulous lot!

Outfit breakdown:

  • Tutu: My custom-made bright pink tutu - my best friend knows I have a tutu obsession and keeps me stocked up!
  • Top: Silky, blush-coloured camisole top - bought on a whim on my last visit to Paris!
  • Shoes: Glittery ballet flats. - They’re sparkly enough to be a disco ball but just right for twirling, and yes I need a disco ball.

Tips for visiting Derby:

  • The theatre: Don't miss the annual ballet festival, it's absolutely magical.
  • The countryside: There are miles and miles of stunning scenery to explore - Belle and I are obsessed.
  • Local cafes and tearooms: There are so many lovely cafes and tearooms tucked away in the little lanes, perfect for catching up with friends.
