Saint Albans: A Pink Tutu Pilgrimage! 🩰

Hello my darlings! 💖

It's Emma here, your resident tutu enthusiast, back from a delightful day trip to Saint Albans, a charming little town just a hop and a skip from London (well, maybe more of a chuff-chuff and a clomp thanks to the trusty train journey!).

This city, nestled amongst rolling Hertfordshire hills, just felt so...English! Quaint, cobbled streets, cosy little tea rooms, and enough history to make your head spin. And of course, there's something for everyone here, including a dedicated little pink tutu fan like myself.

Ballet in a Beautiful Place

My mission today was to visit the historic Alban Arena, a charming venue that houses the Royal Ballet. Honestly, when you hear "ballet" and "historic venue" in the same sentence, your heart skips a beat, doesn't it? My toes were tapping the entire train journey!

Stepping inside, I was transported back in time. It had that perfect blend of old-world elegance and modern comfort - a haven for ballerinas of all ages, from budding ballerinas to seasoned professionals. You could practically feel the magic in the air.

The class was simply heavenly! The instructor was wonderfully encouraging, even offering me a bit of extra coaching on my pirouettes (because, let's face it, there's always room for improvement). We worked on graceful, elegant movements, pushing each other to be our best. Afterwards, feeling the happy exhaustion, I knew it would be a story to cherish.

Lunch, Pinkies Up

After ballet, no visit to a picturesque town is complete without a delightful spot of afternoon tea. My choice: the ever-so-elegant The Old Bakehouse. I chose a table by the window overlooking the cobbled street and the adorable, brightly coloured flowerboxes.

Naturally, a ballerina's afternoon tea comes with a side of pink! (There is a strong theme, right? What can I say? I adore pink.) The sandwiches were finger-licking good, the scones were soft and warm, and the pink-tinged raspberry jam… well, let’s just say it was love at first bite! It was the perfect way to unwind and soak up the lovely atmosphere of the town.

A Parisian Touch

Did you know Saint Albans has a hidden treasure - a delightful little corner of Paris right here in Hertfordshire? Tucked away on a quiet street is a gorgeous Italian deli, and oh my, their tutus were something else! Now, you wouldn't exactly call them “tutus”, as much as Italian tutu inspired skirts - soft and flowy, with an absolutely adorable pink floral print that spoke volumes of Italian artistry. It was definitely a tutu-tally unique purchase. I already have a dress-up idea for our upcoming Derbyshire Derby picnic, I mean, come on! Floral tutus on the downs! Who wouldn't love that?!

A Touch of Nature

Even in a city steeped in history and bustling with life, I always seek out the little green corners, nature's perfect escapes. This time, I discovered Verulamium Park. Nestled along the River Ver, it offers beautiful walks, open spaces for a spontaneous ballet pose, and stunning views of the city's old Roman ruins. It's like stepping back in time while surrounded by the beautiful greens and blues of nature.

While I didn't see any pink flamingoes (which, let’s be honest, would have been absolutely fabulous) , I did encounter the most adorable little robin chirping in the tree tops. It felt like a tiny ballerina fluttering about in the sun!

The Power of a Tutu

Honestly, you can’t deny the magic a tutu can bring. Even with the ancient cobblestones, charming little cafes, and Roman ruins surrounding me, it was a beautiful day where my tutu and I reigned supreme. Every graceful move, every pirouette, and even the dainty bite of a scone - felt so incredibly fulfilling and full of pink-tinted joy!

Remember, darlings, no matter where you go in the world, a tutu always makes a fabulous addition.

Until next time! 💖 Emma
