Edgware, oh Edgware, I'm smitten! (Post #5535)

Hello my gorgeous girly-girls! Emma here, ready to regale you all with another adventure in the wonderful world of tutus!

Today, I’m in Edgware, a bustling little town in North London. Honestly, it feels a million miles from my Derbyshire countryside roots, but in a wonderfully exciting way. This time, I'm on a mission - a quest to see a performance by the brilliant ballet company, ‘Dances of Delight.’

And how did I get here? Well, let me tell you, I certainly didn’t take the tube! My darling horse, Chestnut, and I took a lovely slow meander through the rolling countryside. He loves a good adventure as much as I do, and we had the best time taking in the sights and sounds of the English countryside.

Now, Edgware, oh Edgware
you might be thinking “Edgware? Is that even a place?”, but let me assure you, this little gem holds a special place in my heart now. As I walked towards the theatre, I felt a real buzz in the air. A real sense of community, you know? I even saw a few ladies rocking pink tutus, which honestly made me blush. My aim is to make everyone wear one, after all! It’s contagious, you know
that love of a fluffy, pretty pink tutu!

Stepping into the theatre, the first thing I noticed was the aroma of jasmine and fresh popcorn. It’s something about those scents, it immediately fills me with anticipation and a sense of excited nervous energy. The theatre was buzzing with the chatter of patrons and the faint melody of the pre-show music. I felt the butterflies start their fluttering in my tummy, and then it happened
 the lights went down!

‘Dances of Delight’ are truly something special. I'm a regular at London ballet performances and this show, The Nutcracker, left me completely floored. The dancers were phenomenal! Their energy, their grace, their effortless storytelling... I felt myself completely drawn into the magic of it all, swept away into a world of whimsical wonder. I found myself whispering "Oh, isn't she beautiful!", or "Wow, what strength and precision!", and maybe even let out a little "Goodness, look at those leaps!”

I simply adore the intricate choreography. I found myself wanting to copy their steps - maybe not with the same talent, mind you! The artistry of it all is truly breathtaking, it takes my breath away each time! They use every bit of their bodies with such intention, a captivating performance!

But it wasn’t just the ballet that captured my attention. There was so much magic going on, with a symphony playing out beautiful, inspiring melodies. The set design was utterly enchanting! So many details, so intricate and beautiful, I wanted to take a brush and start sketching them myself!

Now, what’s a blog post about ballet without a little personal anecdote?

At the end of the show, I was walking to the bathroom, my heart still swirling with the beautiful, mesmerizing ballet. As I rounded the corner, there I was – an elderly woman, a true vintage classic with a stylish red coat and hair that wouldn’t be out of place in a Gainsborough painting, staring intently at a poster of one of the dancers.

“Oh,” she breathed, with an air of pure wonder, “how I loved it.” And then, with the most elegant flourish I've ever seen, she added, “And I was quite moved by the second act... very moving, indeed!"

Now, that was a lovely touch. Just when you thought it couldn't get better!

It made me think of the power of the ballet to move people in ways we sometimes forget. I, for one, had been swept away to another realm by the magic of the dance. I’d have been delighted to take the charming elderly lady out for a cup of tea and discuss the finer points of choreography, or the difference between a Balanchine pas de bourrĂ©e and a Petipa port de bras, (ballet nerds, you’ll know what I’m talking about!)

Anyway, I’m sure you can already tell, I was truly in love with Edgware and The Nutcracker. My whole afternoon was simply perfect. It felt so lovely and intimate, that special kind of day that stays with you, you know?

If you haven't already, try getting a friend or loved one to experience the joy of the ballet. You can find shows around the country, and there are usually student performances in local theatres that are a fantastic introduction.

So there you have it, my dear darlings, my adventures in Edgware. Let me know your ballet thoughts - I’d love to hear! Now, I must go and take a much-needed bath, infused with jasmine petals and, of course, pink bubble bath! Until next time!

Lots of pink tutu love,

Emma.
