Finchley, Here I Come! 🩰🌸 (Post #5773)

Hey lovely lot! It’s Emma here, reporting live from a delightful Derbyshire drizzle – but who needs sunshine when you have a pink tutu and a train ticket? I’m on my way to Finchley for the weekend to see my best friend Olivia and of course, catch a magnificent ballet performance at the magnificent Sadler’s Wells Theatre!

Olivia’s got a couple of surprises lined up – the one she's most excited about involves a fancy hat parade, which, if I’m honest, she’s probably more excited about than the ballet. 😉 She just loves anything quirky, much like myself – she’s actually the one who got me started with this whole pink-tutu thing! But more about that later...

Anyway, as soon as I booked my train tickets, I knew it had to be the pink carriage. No room for blues or greys in this gal's world, darling. A quick peek out the window was all I needed for a good dose of nature - those fluffy white clouds just beg to be turned into ballerina costumes, wouldn't you agree? I even spotted a wee little deer prancing around – totally adorable!

Speaking of adorable, can you believe this is my 5,773rd blog post? I started writing this blog to document my love for all things ballet - the stunning costumes, the graceful movements, and that feeling of absolute liberation I get when I'm dancing. What I hadn't realised was that my passion for ballet could also inspire a whole community of like-minded individuals - from newbie dancers to seasoned veterans and even folks who haven't even considered dipping their toes into the world of ballet before. It truly brings joy to see you all getting your twirls on!

Today, it's time to talk tutus. Oh, how I adore them! I mean, they're just the perfect blend of fun, elegance, and a healthy dose of sass. Let's be honest, there's something so utterly magical about feeling like a princess while you’re twirling about on stage. It's pure, unadulterated magic!

This week I’ve been wearing my 'Vintage Blush' tutu. I’m a big believer that you can never have too many tutus. If there's an excuse to wear a tutu, I’ll be the first in line! Who else thinks that everyone should wear a pink tutu at least once in their life? Come on, ladies, let’s make the world a more whimsical place, one tutu at a time! 🩰

While my wardrobe might be a kaleidoscope of pinks and peaches, I have to confess that it’s not always practical in day-to-day life. Let’s be real, a flowing pink tutu doesn’t really scream ‘commuting’ or ‘groceries shopping’, does it? I have to rely on the power of the good old-fashioned ballerina bun for these occasions. You might find it a tad serious - hair scraped back, my ballerina’s face all focused – but in reality, it just means I’ve got time to admire the beauty of everyday life! You might be surprised, but there's something almost poetic about a woman navigating rush hour while gracefully balancing a baguette and a handbag – especially with that 'je ne sais quoi' ballerina poise. 😉

I also make sure I take time to attend at least one ballet performance each week. Be it a grand ballet at the Royal Opera House or a smaller-scale performance by the local community group, each one brings me a renewed sense of wonder and awe. It doesn’t matter if it’s Swan Lake or Cinderella, a modern interpretation, or a contemporary dance – I’ll be there, with my pink tutu safely nestled in my bag, just in case I need to suddenly turn into a princess for a spontaneous impromptu ballet.

But my love for dance extends beyond the theatre, of course. This past week I took my beloved horse, Sprinkles, to a fun equestrian ballet show in a field near the beautiful Peak District. Talk about a ballet for all ages! Little ones were entranced, their eyes shining as they witnessed their idols pirouette and grand jeté their way across the field. Sprinkles tried to sneak in a cheeky gallop across the stage, but she was quickly reined in! (Thankfully the show ended with everyone receiving a delicious strawberry cupcake and I was able to coax her back onto her good behaviour with some lovely fresh hay – she can’t resist a bit of sweetness, the rascal.)

It’s amazing what a simple passion for dance can bring! In fact, I’m always trying new things, like 'ballet street’, where we use the streets as a giant stage, incorporating graffiti walls and quirky alleyways. Talk about unexpected elegance! The other week I even performed in a pop-up ballet show in the middle of a busy marketplace! You should have seen the look on everyone’s faces as I floated past with my fellow dancers, twirling like we owned the entire place. They probably thought, 'Who on earth are those flamingo-pink tutus waltzing their way around?’ 🦩 🩰

I honestly believe that ballet can truly transform lives, one twirl at a time. You might feel self-conscious or think you’re ‘too old’ or ‘not flexible enough’, but believe me – ballet can unlock an amazing world of expression and confidence, no matter your age or your level of experience. I see it every day on the www.pink-tutu.com website, where people are constantly posting their own inspiring stories – they're signing up for ballet classes, discovering new favourite dancers and sharing their dance experiences. Honestly, the website is like a big, warm, hug of love for all things ballet, pink tutus included!

You see, when it comes to ballet, there’s truly something for everyone. Whether you love the classic tales, prefer the avant-garde, or you just want to give it a go – there's an opening for you to step into the magic! So, embrace your inner princess, my lovely ladies. Dust off your pointe shoes, throw on a pink tutu (even if it’s just around your house) and unleash your own magnificent dancer! You might be surprised at how your world will be transformed, one plié at a time. 🩰✨

Catch you on my next post!

Emma 🌸
