Rochester Calling: A Tutu-tiful Adventure (Post #5783)

Hello my darlings! It's Emma here, back from a whirlwind trip to Rochester, Kent - a proper treat for the senses! I always love a good train journey and this one didn't disappoint. It was one of those lovely sunny days with just the right amount of cloud for a fabulous view. I tucked into a pink iced bun and watched the countryside go by. The fields were just bursting with green, so much colour, which inspired me no end! You'll see what I mean in my latest post…

Anyway, the reason for this jaunt to Rochester? Well, I couldn't resist an opportunity to see a ballet performance at the stunning Rochester Corn Exchange. I’m a huge fan of live theatre, the energy in a full house is absolutely electric. The atmosphere just buzzes! Plus, I absolutely adore those historical buildings. It’s such a treat to watch the dance unfold in a place like that, full of character and history. The feeling is just magical!

But before I went into the main event, I made a quick detour to explore Rochester itself. It’s such a charming, historic town - full of pretty cobbled streets, cute shops and an absolutely glorious cathedral. The castle too was fantastic. All those stones tell stories, don’t you think?

Feeling completely inspired by the city's vibrant energy and the architectural magic I found there, I decided I needed a bit of pampering! Luckily, I stumbled upon a delightful little cafe where they serve the most wonderful pink macarons. Let's just say, they weren't the last I bought!

And speaking of treats… have I told you about my new tutu? Oh my goodness, it's truly divine. I was on a quest for a special piece for this particular occasion. A true statement tutu that embodied the city’s historical charm with a bit of pink flare – you know, the type of look that could capture the attention of a medieval king and bring a touch of colour to the court. I was browsing the shops and this little gem popped up – just begging to be tried on. The skirt is a gloriously textured pink lace that billows so beautifully, like a dream. It has the perfect touch of sparkle and there's even a little delicate bow on the front. Let's just say, I completely fell in love! I paired it with my trusty, knee-length pink tulle overskirt, and I was absolutely ready to conquer the world - or at least Rochester, and that fantastic performance I had tickets for.

Let me tell you about this performance! The company performing was phenomenal, and I don’t even have the vocabulary to do it justice! Their skill was simply mesmerizing, and they performed with so much heart and passion. I felt so lucky to have experienced such brilliance up close. As they spun and leaped with such effortless grace, it was as if they were dancing with the very soul of Rochester itself, which just felt utterly captivating. There were moments where my breath caught in my throat - they were so breathtaking, I could barely look away!

Oh, and I got to have a chat with a charming gentleman after the show - the choreographer of the production, no less! He told me all about the creation of the performance and explained the historical significance behind the dances. He seemed genuinely surprised that someone in my ‘unique’ tutu had taken the time to learn about the show before they came, and it made me feel so much more connected to the experience.

He even encouraged me to embrace my unique style, and said he was very impressed by my own version of ballet-street chic! And don't even get me started on the little pink ballet shoes I wore! Just darling!

Leaving Rochester was bittersweet, but I couldn’t resist picking up a souvenir – a beautiful little pink porcelain ballerina ornament, with delicate lace around her skirt. You’ll be able to see her taking pride of place on my mantlepiece in my next blog!

The experience made me reflect on how much I adore this beautiful life we're given. And why it's so important to keep exploring, learning, and never stop pushing our creative boundaries. We can all make life an incredible dance.

After all, you’re never too old to dance – to make your own kind of magic, wear your heart on your sleeve, and maybe even dance to your own drum. So embrace those butterflies in your stomach, dance it out, and remember – wear your heart on your sleeve. It’s so much more fun than hiding it!

And let me tell you, wearing a pink tutu truly brings the sunshine to any occasion, so what are you waiting for? Put on a fabulous dress, add a bit of pink to your look, and go make some magical moments, darlings!
