Kendal Calling: Tutu Time in the Lake District!

Hello darlings! It's your favourite pink-tutu-loving ballerina, Emma, here, and I'm buzzing to tell you all about my latest adventure - a whirlwind trip to Kendal in the beautiful Lake District! I'm sure many of you have heard of this picturesque region of the UK, renowned for its rugged beauty, rolling hills, and sparkling lakes. I, however, had never visited before, and let me tell you, it exceeded all my expectations.

Now, I'm not one to shy away from a bit of adventure, and my trusty pink tutu, as always, was packed and ready for action. You see, this trip wasn't just about enjoying the scenery and getting my Instagram feed looking totally fabulous. I was there to attend the famous Kendal Calling festival, and boy, did I have a blast!

Firstly, let's talk about the journey. Oh, the journey! This time, I chose a classic travel option, a romantic train ride. The train carriage had plush seats, a big window, and I even managed to squeeze in a little ballet warm-up – no need to tell my fellow passengers that it was in preparation for a day of dancing like a madwoman at the festival.

The arrival in Kendal was an explosion of colour and excitement. Think of the most charming market town you can imagine – quirky shops, cute cafes, and, oh, so much pink! And when I say pink, I mean a proper explosion of it – from the fluffy pink ice cream I had at the station to the beautifully painted pink benches dotted around the town square. The town was simply oozing with that beautiful shade that makes my heart sing.

Of course, it was the Kendal Calling festival itself that was the highlight of my trip. Picture this: stunning open-air stages against the backdrop of the rolling Lake District fells, with music for every taste, vibrant stalls showcasing unique crafts and artisan foods, and a whole lot of joyous festival fun. This festival definitely had my name written all over it!

Now, I know you're thinking, "Emma, why would you wear a tutu to a festival?". And the answer, my lovely readers, is simple. The tutu isn’t just an outfit – it’s an attitude, a feeling! A little bit of whimsy in the world makes all the difference.

This particular tutu I wore was black, which is surprisingly versatile for a festival look! I paired it with a fluffy pink top, my trusty Doc Martens, a pink festival bag, and a splash of my signature pink glitter – because, why not, right? The combination was a real eye-catcher and certainly helped me blend right into the funky, carefree atmosphere of the festival.

Throughout the festival, I caught a mix of music performances, from folk to pop and rock. My personal favourite was an incredible set by a folk band - their performance reminded me so much of traditional ballets, the way they weaved storytelling with music and movement. They inspired me to have a little impromptu ballet session right there in the middle of the crowd, which, honestly, just makes sense at a festival! It was a lot of fun, even if a few onlookers raised eyebrows!

However, Kendal Calling was so much more than music. It was about celebrating art in all its forms. I saw breathtaking photography exhibits, listened to inspiring talks on art and design, and got my hands on some fantastic hand-crafted jewellery. The highlight, however, was a fascinating installation that explored the intersection of ballet and street art. It involved ballerinas moving through graffiti-covered back alleys, highlighting the artistic power of movement and how it can take form anywhere and everywhere. Talk about pushing boundaries!

Of course, no visit to the Lake District would be complete without a little nature appreciation. Between gigs, I hiked to a scenic viewpoint that overlooked the breathtaking Lake Windermere. I spent time gazing at the emerald green hills and listening to the sound of the birds, I found a charming little cafe nestled amongst the trees where I had a scrumptious homemade lemon cake, and even spotted a fluffy little fox exploring the undergrowth near the lake - a moment that just warmed my heart!

This trip, filled with music, art, adventure, and my beloved tutus, has been an absolute delight. It’s proof that beauty, joy, and excitement can be found anywhere and everywhere – you just need to keep your eyes open and be willing to embrace the world in your own unique way. And, if I can leave you with one message, dear reader, it’s this: put on a pink tutu and dance to your own beat!

Love, Emma xoxo
