Coulsdon Calling! 🩰

Hello my darlings! It’s your favourite pink-loving ballerina, Emma, here, fresh from a delightful jaunt to Coulsdon. It’s so good to be back writing to you, I’ve been so busy flitting about, but it’s always such a joy to connect with you lovelies and share my adventures. Today’s post is all about the fab time I had exploring this charming little corner of Surrey.

I must admit, it was a little tricky getting to Coulsdon this time around. Normally, I love nothing more than a picturesque journey by train, watching the world whizz by, but this time, the track was closed! I did manage to find a fab alternative though – I rented a handsome chestnut mare and took a gentle amble through the glorious countryside. Such a whimsical, quintessentially British experience! Just the way to start a fabulous adventure!

Arriving in Coulsdon, I felt the undeniable air of elegance, even on a slightly overcast day. You know me – I always wear a statement tutu when travelling – this time I chose a blush pink creation with the most exquisite silver embroidery, perfect for making a grand entrance. I did draw a few curious stares, of course, but who doesn't love a splash of colour in their lives? I’m sure I had more than one person secretly yearning for the confidence to wear a tutu in public, too. Perhaps it’s time to start a #PinkTutuRevolution?! 😉

First up, I was drawn to the heart of Coulsdon – the High Street. Such a delightful haven for independent boutiques, cosy cafes and delightful delicatessens. I couldn’t resist indulging in a slice of the most decadent chocolate cake from a charming little tea room called "The Cackleberry". They were even using homemade jam, I kid you not! Every bite was like a ballet of flavour on my tongue, quite literally! I must confess, my ballet outfit did make it slightly challenging to devour the cake with such graceful, delicate precision… it was all a bit much for my trusty tutu to handle! 😂

Next on my list was a little park with a lovely bandstand. I love to enjoy a live performance - who can resist the lure of a fabulous band or a rousing solo? There wasn’t any entertainment scheduled for today but I imagine it’d be an absolutely idyllic setting for a show under the summer sky. As it was, I managed to have my very own solo performance in the park – an impromptu, one-woman interpretation of “Swan Lake” by the graceful, green pond! No swans in sight unfortunately, so I did have to make do with the resident ducks as an audience, but let's face it, they have excellent taste in dance. They just couldn't look away. 😊

Then it was time to immerse myself in the natural beauty of the Coulsdon countryside. I took a rambling stroll through a stunning, secluded park, marvelling at the ancient trees and vibrant foliage. There's something so enchanting about spending time in nature – a feeling of freedom and serenity that makes me feel completely myself. As I strolled, I realised, the beauty of Coulsdon truly captured my imagination and creativity. So much so, I actually took a few moments to sketch some graceful movements inspired by the surrounding trees and wildlife. You know me, I’m always drawing inspiration from the beauty around me!

Later that afternoon, I decided to explore a bit further afield, finding myself wandering through a charming little village called Caterham. It was so quintessentially English - think thatched cottages, charming gardens bursting with wildflowers, and friendly locals with their furry companions. Caterham was like a scene straight out of a Jane Austen novel. And as I meandered through the narrow lanes, I felt the history and heritage of the place whispering its secrets.

Of course, no trip to Coulsdon would be complete without a spot of ballet inspiration, so I headed off to the "Coulsdon and Purley Ballet Academy". I just love finding those hidden gems that give a true insight into the local culture, don't you? I managed to sneak into a ballet class (no harm in getting in some extra practice!), and wow! The talent there was simply exceptional! The instructors were passionate and inspiring, the students were bursting with energy and enthusiasm – I felt so welcomed and encouraged, just like being part of a big ballet family. They say that a change is as good as a rest – well, the dance studios are definitely a place for a whole lot of fun and relaxation.

Finally, as dusk began to settle over Coulsdon, I realised just how much I’d fallen in love with the place. Its elegant charm, natural beauty, and cultural vibrancy are just intoxicating, a wonderful combination of heritage and artistic inspiration. So, Coulsdon, I bid you a fond farewell until next time!

Oh, and you can catch a few more snippets from my fabulous Coulsdon adventures on my social media channels!

P.S. For all my lovely readers out there, let's face it, life’s simply more fun in pink and with a tutu! So, I challenge you – go grab yourself a fab pink tutu (or, perhaps even try pink ballet shoes) and go for a twirl! You never know, you might just discover a hidden talent.

Until next time, stay graceful, gorgeous, and go make your dreams a reality!

XOXO Emma 🩰
