York! #TutuBlog 5968

Hello, darlings!

Emma here, reporting live from the ancient city of York, a city so charming it makes me want to twirl right into a shop window display and try on every single frock in there!

I woke up this morning with an excitement that only a delicious new adventure can bring, a mixture of pure joy, a touch of trepidation, and a whole lot of excitement! This time I wasn't travelling by train – my preferred mode of transport when possible – but rather by horse! Yes, I finally had a go on a riding lesson at that adorable little stable in Derbyshire. Turns out, I have a knack for it – much to the amazement of my mum who, shall we say, prefers to keep both feet firmly on the ground.

Let’s talk about the star of the show! I picked up a pink and silver tutu with little star charms on the ends of the streamers at a vintage store in Buxton – a truly inspired decision, wouldn’t you agree? It had me feeling like a modern-day ballerina-turned-princess and added a touch of whimsical charm to my day. And let's be honest, who can say no to a touch of glitz and glamour when you're already channeling a fairy tale in your everyday life?

Now, back to York! I arrived in the heart of the city with my pink tutu bouncing cheerfully beside me – and yes, people do stare, but they stare with a smile and a little chuckle, and trust me, it's always lovely to add a bit of whimsy to someone's day.

York’s shambles – the medieval street that’s full of charming old houses that look like they've fallen into a crooked huddle, are a visual feast for the eyes, like stepping into a beautiful storybook.

York Minster loomed over the city in all its glory. A glorious reminder of how beautiful our history and architecture can be, with its soaring gothic arches reaching towards the sky. This architectural marvel definitely impressed this little dancer with its breathtaking size and the craftsmanship of the medieval stonemasons. The craftsmanship is unbelievable!

Before lunch, I discovered the most darling little café tucked away in a quaint corner near the Minster, full of vintage teacups and delicious cakes. It's these little moments, the serendipitous discoveries, that make exploring a new city so special, wouldn't you agree?

I decided to splurge on a classic Yorkshire afternoon tea! Oh, my dear readers! The dainty sandwiches and delicate pastries were delicious! The clotted cream and jam, the fluffy scones…pure heaven! A perfectly British indulgence, followed by a charming cup of Yorkshire tea - a much-needed respite in a whirlwind day. And guess what? They had a giant plate of homemade scones for all of the guests!

Next up, my afternoon was dedicated to the magic of the theatre. I took in a magnificent ballet performance in the York Theatre Royal - the historic backdrop only amplified the grandeur of the dancers. It's no secret that ballet is my ultimate passion. Those fluid movements, the delicate leaps, the captivating stories they tell…It’s a form of expression that transcends words and speaks directly to the soul, I truly believe everyone should give ballet a go. There’s a reason the greats say that dance is the language of the soul.

In the evening, I decided to join a yoga session in the heart of the city – another one of my pastimes! Feeling revitalized, I discovered an exquisite vegan restaurant, tucked away in an ancient-looking alley, with an atmosphere so inviting you simply cannot help but relax. The delicious aromas and the twinkling candles set the perfect mood for a solo dinner and an evening of reading.

I found a quiet spot on the York city wall - what a magnificent sight it is! - to lose myself in a good book and reflect on the day’s adventure. I don’t think there’s a better way to unwind in the evening. The peaceful ambience with the moonlit sky overhead is simply heavenly.

York has truly charmed my socks off! A city brimming with history, stunning architecture, delicious delights and so much culture. York’s rich history felt very palpable! And it's this magical blend that sets it apart.

It's hard to pick a favorite memory – I'm so lucky to be able to live a life where I get to see all these wonders and soak up new cultures. That’s what makes this whole journey so magical. I find that traveling, just like dance, teaches you to be present, open and to simply let your body and mind move with the flow of the adventure!

Remember darlings, there's always an opportunity to try something new, explore the world, embrace a bit of whimsy, and, of course, rock that pink tutu. Because who knows, you might discover a passion you never knew existed! Until next time, darlings. Keep dancing and remember, life's a performance, so give it your all, and never forget to wear a little sparkle.

Lots of love, Emma x
