Rochdale: Tutu-ing Up the North

Good morning, lovelies! Itā€™s Emma here, and I'm absolutely buzzing to share with you all the fabulous adventure I had yesterday. I just couldn't wait to get this post up, so here's my account of the time I tutu-ed up Rochdale!

Rochdale, you may not know, is a beautiful, historic market town in Greater Manchester, just a short train ride from my home in Derbyshire. Itā€™s nestled in the foothills of the Pennines, so the air is crisp and clean. And, to be honest, the town centre has an edgy vibe that was calling out for a splash of pink tutu fabulousness.

Now, I always travel in style, and I have to say, the train journey to Rochdale was a proper highlight of the day. Thereā€™s nothing better than watching the English countryside fly past from a comfy carriage. And with my bright pink tutu flowing behind me, well, it really added a touch of drama to the whole thing!

Of course, the best part was getting to Rochdale itself. This market town has so much charm, with cobblestone streets lined with gorgeous little shops. And, for a tutu enthusiast like me, it was absolute heaven!

Now, before I started my day's adventure, I made a quick pitstop at The Crown pub on The Esplanade. A proper British boozer with an abundance of character, where I was able to slap on a little bit of lipstick and pick a fresh bunch of flowers for my tutu. Itā€™s good to get in touch with nature, you know, even if it's just buying a beautiful posy of lilies. They were such a beautiful, fresh white against my vibrant pink - I thought it made the perfect combination!

You know me, I love finding the perfect outfit, and for today, my pink tutu really shined. With my black patent-leather flats, and a fluffy pink cardigan, I felt absolutely on top of the world.

Feeling confident and radiant, I wandered around the town's heart, admiring the quaint Victorian architecture, the quirky antique shops and the colourful fruit stalls. My trusty little digital camera, perched on my shoulder, captured every delightful moment of my stroll.

Next, it was time to take in a bit of local history. Rochdale boasts some fascinating heritage sites - the oldest and most charming one I saw was the Rochdale Pioneers Museum. You see, it all started right here, this beautiful town was the birthplace of the co-operative movement!

Did you know, Rochdale was the cradle of the co-operative movement? In 1844, 28 people gathered right here in this town, and in a room over whatā€™s now called the Co-operative Bank, they set about establishing the Rochdale Society of Equitable Pioneers. What an incredible story.

And my goodness, that museum, just like the rest of the town, was overflowing with history, the perfect backdrop for a splash of pink. And who knows? Perhaps the pioneering spirits of Rochdale will one day embrace a new way of looking at life - a more colorful way!

And now for some serious dance magic: my little dance interlude! Now, I've been dancing since I was a little girl. Ballet, you see, itā€™s in my blood, a passion that shines bright within me. And, as any tutu enthusiast would know, Rochdale's stunning Rochdale Town Hall was a dream come true.

This exquisite piece of Victorian architecture housed Rochdaleā€™s Art Gallery and Central Library. And guess what, right there in the Town Hall, in front of a beautiful stained-glass window, I twirled with all my heart. Let me tell you, a ballet dancerā€™s passion finds its expression through those pirouettes.

And when the sun peeked out from behind the clouds, catching the glint of my tutu and reflecting it off the historic architecture of the town hallā€¦ well, it felt like I had a magical moment right there in the middle of Rochdale. I felt pure joy and utter freedom! You can imagine the glee in my heart!

After my impromptu performance, it was time to delve deeper into the charming nooks and crannies of Rochdale, and a visit to the Rochdale canal basin felt like the perfect opportunity. Now, for those who don't know, this beautiful basin is nestled right in the heart of the town and offers stunning views. It really was like a little piece of heaven!

Just a stone's throw from the canal, and overlooking the famous Rochdale canal, is St. Mary in the Woods, a hidden oasis in the hustle and bustle. Nestled in a gorgeous churchyard with the graves of poets and authors, the church stands silent, its history spanning back over two centuries! And here I stood, enjoying a quiet moment to reflect on the beauty that surrounds us.

After that delightful stroll through Rochdale's green heart, I felt that it was time for a bit of wildlife adventure. And what a lucky day I had!

Because just a few miles from the town centre I stumbled across the amazing Hollingworth Lake Country Park. With breathtaking landscapes, picturesque walkways and hidden nooks and crannies perfect for a wildlife enthusiast like me. It's one of the jewels in the crown of Rochdale's local beauty spots.

Did you know, Hollingworth Lake is actually an old mill pond! Back in the day, the waters powered the wheels of the surrounding mills. Just imagining the sights and sounds of those busy factories makes me appreciate even more the peaceful, natural surroundings today.

While the sun painted the skies in warm hues of orange and yellow, I spent the last few hours exploring this captivating expanse, feeling a sense of peace as the vibrant wildlife surrounded me - from chattering blue tits to inquisitive deer peeking through the trees, it was natureā€™s very own ballet performance, showcasing its graceful charm.

My camera just couldnā€™t get enough - I clicked away capturing the beauty of the vibrant leaves changing colour, the flashing wings of the busy blue tits, and even a cheeky squirrel! This is natureā€™s beautiful ballet in all its glorious simplicity.

But my day was not over yet! As I ambled along the stunning Hollingworth Lake, I had a wonderful opportunity to witness a rare and truly remarkable sight ā€“ a troop of wild ponies grazing along the lake's edge, as though they'd wandered straight from a fairytale! Their powerful, yet gentle presence made my heart skip a beat, reminding me of the graceful elegance of horses.

These magnificent creatures, with their coats glistening under the twilight glow, seemed so carefree as they moved through the tall grass, perfectly reflecting the wild spirit that makes me, a ballet dancer, and nature, feel so at one with lifeā€™s graceful rhythm!

Oh, I felt such a deep connection with those gorgeous animals as I watched them move and graze! It was as if their graceful, yet powerful movement was like a dance, reminding me once more of the balletā€™s gentle yet robust power.

And as I packed up my bags to make my way back to Derbyshire, it felt as though Rochdaleā€™s heart, so full of pioneering spirit, its historical charm, its lush greenery, and its vibrant wildlife, had opened up to embrace me in its warm embrace.

Todayā€™s adventure reminded me of why I live to travel. And you know, every trip I take leaves me even more convinced of the incredible magic found in embracing lifeā€™s little moments, especially in those unique, hidden pockets of the country where every corner tells a fascinating story and beauty blooms around you like a pink tutu in full bloom!

It was a simply fabulous day. Now, go forth, fellow Tutu enthusiasts! Wear pink! Twirl with joy! Explore new places, let your soul be inspired by lifeā€™s beautiful details and make the world a brighter place. And who knows? You may even find your own personal ā€œRochdaleā€ right there where you least expect it!

Until next time!

xx Emma
