Edmonton, Alberta: A Tutu-tastic Adventure!

Post Number 6005

Hello darlings! It's Emma here, and you won't believe where I am right now: Edmonton, Alberta! The city is absolutely brimming with festive cheer - Christmas lights are twinkling, snowflakes are twirling in the crisp air, and I've even seen a snowman wearing a pink tutu!

It's a chilly Canadian winter here, but my spirits are as warm as a mug of hot cocoa (with marshmallows, of course!). Why? Because Edmonton has a special place in my heart - it's where my ballet dreams first took flight!

You see, I was a young thing, just starting out on my ballet journey, when I first saw a performance by the Alberta Ballet. I remember sitting mesmerised in the audience, feeling like I was floating among the stars with those graceful dancers. It ignited a passion within me that I knew would never fade.

But before I get swept away in a whirlwind of memories, let's talk about my outfit!

German Sparkle

I couldn't travel to Edmonton without packing a special tutu - after all, this city deserves a splash of pink! My latest find is a shimmering German creation, a confection of blush pink tulle and shimmering sequins. The delicate ruffles dance with every movement, making it feel like I'm wearing a cloud of fairy dust. It's a true showstopper, and it made turning heads in the Edmonton streets a breeze!

The Power of Ballet

One of the main reasons for my visit is to see another show by the Alberta Ballet, and I am positively brimming with anticipation. You see, this isn't just any performance - it's a reimagining of Tchaikovsky's 'Swan Lake' set to music from Radiohead! Can you imagine? Classic ballet, but with a modern, rock-n-roll edge! I'm particularly excited to see how the dancers interpret this incredible mix of old and new.

Adventures Beyond the Barre

When I'm not twirling my way through rehearsals and shows, I've been exploring the city's beautiful sights and sounds. I took a horseback ride through a frozen forest – I was surprised at how much fun it was to gallop through the snowy scenery! It was a wonderful way to connect with nature and feel a little wild and free.

My other favourite discovery is a small independent cafe called The Pink Flamingo. It's nestled in a charming alleyway, filled with vintage furniture and artwork, and they serve the most decadent pink macarons – a real treat for my sweet tooth!

Sharing the Pink Tutu Love

I’ve also been spreading the joy of ballet by holding a pop-up workshop for local youngsters. It was so heartwarming to see their eyes light up as they learned the basics of barre work. And I, of course, had to wear my German tutu - what better way to inspire budding ballerinas than with a little extra sparkle?

There's something truly special about sharing my passion for ballet with others. It’s more than just a dance form, it’s a journey of self-discovery, strength, and artistic expression. I truly believe that every single one of us has a ballerina inside, waiting to be unleashed.

Pink Tutu Dreams

My trip to Edmonton has been a truly magical experience. I've reconnected with my childhood love of ballet, explored a beautiful new city, and made new friends along the way. I’m leaving with a heart full of gratitude and memories that will stay with me forever.

Until next time, remember: Don't be afraid to embrace your inner ballerina! And who knows, maybe you'll even join me in rocking a pink tutu – it’s all about finding that spark of joy and confidence within!

With twirling love,

Emma xx
