Fleet: Food For Thought (and Feet)

Hello darlings!

Emma here, writing to you from the lovely town of Fleet, a stone's throw from the rolling hills of Surrey. The air is crisp, the birds are chirping, and my toes are itching for a pirouette - or at least a waltz around the charming high street.

Fleet is just a quick hop on the train from London, perfect for a quick weekend getaway. But let's be honest, my love for a weekend trip to the countryside doesn't need much excuse. It's all about the charming cottages, the scent of fresh-baked bread wafting from bakeries, the open spaces, and the feeling that time slows down just a bit.

A Tutu That Speaks to My Tummy

Now, let's talk about today's attire. Naturally, it had to be pink. But this time, instead of your standard ballet pink, I opted for a gorgeous blush pink tutu with edible embellishments! My lovely friend Poppy (who always has the most whimsical ideas) had helped me craft this little masterpiece. Imagine delicate spun sugar butterflies fluttering on a fluffy cloud of tulle, shimmering candy floss petals encasing my legs, and mini marshmallows peeking out from the top like tiny fluffy kisses. It was almost too sweet to wear! (Almost!).

As you can probably imagine, it caused quite a stir as I made my way through Fleet. Smiles and laughter greeted me at every turn. Little girls squealed with delight, men offered me polite compliments, and even the resident pigeons seemed charmed by my outfit! It just goes to show, a little bit of pink (and maybe some edible tulle) can brighten anyone's day.

Ballet on the Menu

Now, Fleet might not be known for its ballet scene (yet!), but it certainly boasts a delectable culinary experience. I couldn't leave without sampling some local treats, and I had to choose something fitting for a ballerina with a sweet tooth.

The Gingerbread Ballet: A Ballet-Themed Treat

After scouring the high street, I found the perfect spot for my sugar fix: "The Gingerbread Ballet". Now, I don't want to brag, but you know me, my love for all things pink is matched only by my love for all things ballet, so I was smitten by the name alone!

And it lived up to the hype. The shop window was adorned with gingerbread ballet shoes, dancers frozen mid-pirouette, and delicate sugar tutus crafted with painstaking detail. The aroma inside was intoxicating - the scent of cinnamon, nutmeg, and gingerbread spices danced in the air. The staff were warm, friendly, and I was greeted like a princess entering her own gingerbread kingdom.

A Bite-Sized Masterpiece

For my own ballet-themed feast, I indulged in their “Prima Ballerina Plate”: A delicate gingerbread cookie, sculpted to resemble a graceful ballerina, posed perfectly en pointe, with a single swirl of sugared cream adorning the bodice and a touch of edible gold dusting to mimic the glint of the stage lights.

To wash it all down, I sipped a creamy pink strawberry and vanilla latte ( naturally!), and for a moment, I felt like I was sitting backstage at the Bolshoi, with my tutu a perfect match for the pastel colours and the elegant ambience of this little gem of a cafe.

A Day In Bloom

Fleet is full of lovely gardens and blooming flowers. I found myself strolling past a beautiful rose garden with the most vibrant pink blooms. It felt like a fairy tale scene - the gentle breeze carried the sweet fragrance of roses and a rainbow of colours burst forth in a symphony of fragrance.

This, of course, gave me the perfect opportunity to break out my new ballet-inspired floral wreath. I've been wanting to make one for ages, with tiny silk rosebuds and dainty pink butterflies interwoven among delicate leaves and lavender. I felt like a ballerina goddess walking through a garden of dreams, ready to dance my heart out on this enchanting stage.

A Ballet-Filled Sunset

As the sun began its golden descent, painting the sky in hues of rose and apricot, I found myself captivated by a sight that reminded me of the beauty that can be found in the unexpected. In the distance, the steeple of the village church stood tall and elegant, casting long shadows over the field where a small group of children were practicing a ballet routine.

My heart swelled with a familiar joy, as if the Universe was whispering a message of encouragement in my ear, reminding me that ballet isn’t confined to a stage or a theatre. It's a language that can be spoken anywhere, and a joy that can be found in even the most ordinary places, with a simple pirouette or a graceful pose.

Fleet: A Little Ballet Haven

It was such a lovely weekend in Fleet! It was a gentle reminder that beauty and wonder can be found in every corner of our world, if we only take the time to look.

And, remember, darlings, ballet is a beautiful thing. It has a magical quality that makes us all feel lighter, stronger, more connected to our bodies, and more alive! So, whether you’re twirling in your favourite pink tutu at home or in a bustling city, always try to embrace your inner ballerina!

Until next time,

Emma
