Cambridge Calling: Tutu Time!

Oh darling, what a week it's been! You wouldn't believe what adventures this pink-tutu-loving girl has been up to! It all started with a whirlwind train journey, and I'm not even talking about the usual first-class chaos (though, it was lovely of course). I’m always partial to a journey on the rails, it's so quintessentially English, like stepping into one of those gorgeous vintage railway posters. But this journey was extra special…

Yes, my dears, I travelled all the way to the historic and utterly charming Cambridge, just to witness a glorious ballet spectacle. My heart was truly aflutter as the train trundled into King's Cross, a sea of anticipation washing over me! You see, my journey wasn't just about seeing a ballet, oh no. I was there to see a ballet in a tutu! I know, it sounds strange, but let me explain…

A Tutu Tale

A little while ago, I stumbled upon this amazing independent company based in…you guessed it, Cambridge! They make the most incredible, unique tutus, handcrafted with such intricate details and colours. They're called 'The Ballerina’s Dream', and I swear, they truly capture the magic of ballet in every single design.

They've been showcasing their exquisite work for years now, even gaining attention in the ballet world, which I think is simply phenomenal. This week, I finally got to experience their magic firsthand at a stunning pop-up show.

Oh, my darlings, the atmosphere was truly electric! The space they'd chosen was a hidden gem, tucked away in a charming courtyard with a sense of pure enchantment about it. The air was buzzing with the whispers of anticipation as fellow tutu enthusiasts like myself waited for the magic to begin. I even caught a glimpse of the ballerina's costume designer, and let me tell you, she looked divine in her own dreamy pink tutu - a true ballerina through and through. She certainly gave me some serious wardrobe envy!

But it wasn't just the exquisite craftsmanship of the tutus that enchanted me. It was the performance itself. These graceful ballerinas, effortlessly gliding across the stage, their bodies telling stories through every gesture. Their performance was truly mesmerizing! The tutus just danced with them, like wispy clouds swirling and swirling, each pirouette a testament to the incredible artistry of these talented women.

From the Stage to the Street

The performance was a revelation! And I mean that quite literally. I suddenly felt like I was right back in my childhood, where ballet was everything. That spark rekindled within me and a new sense of adventure welled up, an itch to spread the love of dance wherever I went.

So, after the show, I couldn't resist a quick wander around Cambridge. It’s just a stone’s throw away from the pop-up show venue. The quaint, cobblestone streets were teeming with cyclists and students, creating such a lively energy that simply couldn't be contained. Of course, being me, I decided it was the perfect opportunity for some impromptu ballerina fun!

And my dears, I don't mean just posing with the old University buildings. Imagine me, whirling and twirling in the middle of Market Square, showcasing a tutu designed to fit every adventure! My impromptu ballet routine certainly raised some eyebrows, some smiles, and even the occasional hesitant wave from a passerby. You wouldn't believe the fun we had!

But, that's the beauty of a tutu - it brings out the child in us all. It breaks down boundaries and transforms any setting into a stage for expression.

More Than Just a Tutu

I’ve found that life's best memories aren’t planned - they just happen, organically. The trip to Cambridge wasn't on my agenda. I mean, it's not exactly a wildlife paradise, not the kind I typically go wild for, although the River Cam does have a lot of wildlife. There’s always a charming, wild swan or two swanning about in Cambridge, it must be an exciting spot for bird watchers!

Anyway, I realised something this week that feels truly special and important.

You see, Cambridge, like ballet, is about the joy of discovering the world with fresh eyes. It's about finding beauty in the everyday, the hidden stories within every cobblestone and every step of a pirouette. It’s also about wearing a pink tutu on your way to an incredible ballet performance and twirling in Market Square - that’s what life’s all about.

My mission, darling, is to get you all to wear a pink tutu. I promise, even if you’ve never touched a ballet barre in your life, the world just becomes a more wonderful, joyful, and free place when you’ve got a tutu on! Who needs an actual ballet to be a ballerina? I believe in you, darlings.

Let's all make it our personal mission to share the magic of dance with the world! Stay tuned, darlings, because who knows what wonderful tutu adventures I’ll be sharing with you all soon…

Love, Emma
