Leith Calling! (Post #6333)

Hello my gorgeous lovelies!

It's your girl Emma, back with another adventure! Today, I'm channeling my inner German tutu, and you won't believe where I am!

I woke up this morning feeling a bit tutu-fied – like I needed something special to fuel my day. That’s when it hit me – I'm going to Leith!

Yes, darling, that charming little spot on the coast of Edinburgh, with the cobbled streets and the sea air. It's a place where dreams take flight, literally!

I knew immediately, my dear, this trip demanded something extravagant.

Enter stage left, the German tutu, an absolutely exquisite, fuchsia confection from the depths of my tutu wardrobe!

This majestic creation, adorned with feathers and glitter, screams "I'm in Edinburgh, baby, and I'm ready for an unforgettable adventure!"

The journey itself was an experience. Of course, I wouldn’t think of taking any old mode of transport. We all know a good train ride adds that touch of fairytale magic, don't we? It's all about the romantic clatter of wheels on tracks, the gentle swaying of the carriage, and the ever-changing scenery flitting past.

I had the perfect book to accompany me – "Ballet at the Court of the Tudors", such a juicy read!

Leith greeted me with open arms, and, of course, I embraced her back, spinning around with a glorious pirouette on the windswept dockside! This beautiful spot really has that raw beauty and historical charm that always sets my imagination alight.

The day was all about discovering Leith’s hidden treasures: quaint shops crammed with antique ballet shoes, quirky cafes with delicious lavender tea cakes, and even a wee bookshop where I stumbled across the perfect vintage ballet programme for my collection (more about that later, darlings!)

But no trip to Leith would be complete without a visit to its iconic Royal Yacht Britannia! Stepping aboard this glorious vessel felt like stepping into a time capsule – and not just any time capsule, but one adorned with the most spectacular ballroom! Can you imagine all the dazzling parties this boat has witnessed? Just picture the elegant waltzes, the sparkling gowns, and the intoxicating laughter of a bygone era… My, what stories these walls could tell!

Leith has captured a little bit of my heart, my darlings, and, to celebrate this glorious trip, I couldn’t resist getting into the theatre spirit.

We all know I'm a total drama queen, so when the opportunity to see a production of "Swan Lake" at the magnificent Edinburgh Playhouse popped up, I snatched it with the agility of a graceful gazelle!

I can't even describe the ballet! The dancers were divine – every plié, every arabesque, every graceful leap took my breath away. It was the most captivating and emotive performance, and let me tell you, my heart absolutely swooned!

Of course, no outing is complete without some good ol' fashion retail therapy! This German tutu, however stunning, needed an equally extravagant companion. That's when I stumbled upon the most beautiful, pink fur-trimmed bolero! Let's just say this pairing is absolutely dreamy, and I’ve never felt more fabulous!

I couldn't leave Leith without a balletic goodbye. After all, a ballerina’s day is never complete without a quick spin in the studio! A delightful little ballet school near the harbour provided the perfect spot. Let me tell you, my darlings, the atmosphere was truly magical! With a sprinkle of fairy dust in my heart and the music of Tchaikovsky dancing in my ears, I took to the barre and glided across the floor in an impromptu pirouette, feeling pure bliss!

Leith is truly a place where art, culture and beauty converge, and where the spirit of dance whispers on every wind. It's a place I know I'll cherish forever.

Speaking of cherishing… I've got a very special treat for you lovely lot! Tomorrow's post, drum roll , I’m going to be sharing my very special collection of vintage ballet programmes. I know how much you adore those nostalgic gems!

Until next time, darlings, remember, life is a ballet. Spin, twirl, jump, and enjoy every beautiful moment!

With all my love,

Emma xxx
