Hey darlings! 👋
It's your favourite tutu-clad adventurer, Emma, here, back from a whirlwind trip to the enchanting county of Durham. You know how much I love exploring Britain by train, and this time was no different. I boarded the carriage with my trusty fluffy pink tutu tucked safely in my tote bag, excited for the journey northwards.
Now, Consett might not be the most glamorous of places (sorry Consett, not being rude!) but I'm a firm believer that every town, no matter how small, has a story to tell. And what a story it had! This mining town has a real rugged charm and, for a ballerina, a bit of history is always appealing. I spent my morning exploring the local museum, where I even learned a thing or two about the role ballet played in miners' lives during the Victorian era - fascinating stuff!
But the real highlight of the trip was a delightful performance by the Durham Youth Ballet company. These young dancers, oh my, they blew me away! There's nothing quite like seeing the pure passion and talent in budding ballerinas. I must say, there were a couple of tutu moments that truly stole the show! It reminded me how much joy ballet can bring, even to the most unexpected corners of the world.
Later that evening, I indulged in a lovely pub meal with the Durham Youth Ballet crew. They were so enthusiastic about ballet and even asked me about my dream of getting everyone to wear a pink tutu! Now, I know what you're thinking – is that possible?! But honestly, if we can get more people excited about ballet, why not?! I’d love to see the streets flooded with fluffy pinkness! 🩰
Of course, no trip to Consett would be complete without a touch of nature. We hopped on a lovely horse-drawn carriage ride, taking in the beauty of the rolling countryside. There were so many adorable sheep, a few cheeky squirrels, and even a herd of magnificent deer – what a sight! 🦌
Consett might be a small town, but its heart is definitely big! It was filled with friendly people, incredible history, and the spirit of ballet. If you're looking for a break from the usual tourist traps, I highly recommend venturing out to this delightful little gem.
