Burton Upon Trent - A Purple Tutu Adventure! (Post #6536)

Hello darlings! It's Emma here, your friendly neighbourhood tutu-wearing ballerina.

Today's post is all about my recent adventure to the charming town of Burton Upon Trent! This Derbyshire lass was definitely feeling a bit homesick, but the chance to escape for a weekend filled with dance, delicious food, and yes, even a little wildlife, was irresistible.

Now, I know I always preach about rocking pink tutus, but for this trip, I was feeling something a little bit bolder. I grabbed my trusty purple tutu – you know, the one with the glittery sequined trim? – and paired it with my favourite lavender cardigan for a touch of Parisian chic.

A Journey By Rail

As any seasoned ballet dancer knows, the most graceful way to travel is by train. The rhythmic sway of the carriage and the charming views of the countryside always make for the most wonderful ballet rehearsal – even if it's just in my head. This time, the scenery was especially stunning as we rolled past fields ablaze with wildflowers and little villages nestled amongst rolling green hills.

First Stop: Burton’s Ballet Scene

Now, Burton may not be the first place that comes to mind when you think ballet, but let me tell you, it’s got a surprisingly vibrant scene! The first thing that caught my eye was the quaint little ballet school nestled away on a cobbled side street. Of course, I couldn't resist popping in for a peek. The air was alive with the sound of twinkling piano music and the joyful thumps of tiny feet dancing. It was utterly enchanting.

And speaking of charming, the Royal Ballet Theatre had just finished a wonderful run of "Swan Lake." I simply had to grab a last-minute ticket to experience the magic! You'd think that being surrounded by beautiful ballerinas in stunning costumes would be enough to make a girl giddy, but let me tell you, when you add a handsome Prince and a dramatic, breathtaking swan pas de deux, it's pure magic! And as much as I love dancing, watching truly gifted artists express themselves through the language of ballet is incredibly inspiring.

Lunch With A View

Feeling inspired and utterly delighted after the performance, I decided to treat myself to a lovely lunch. I found this quaint little café, overlooking the River Trent. It was all brick and beams, with charming window seats offering views of the water. The menu boasted an incredible array of pastries and sandwiches, all beautifully presented. I chose a delicate croissant with smoked salmon and a cup of fragrant Earl Grey tea, enjoying every bite in the sunshine while taking in the idyllic view.

Afternoon Adventure

A light afternoon stroll was just what I needed to work off those delightful calories! And, my darlings, let me tell you, the Burton Upon Trent canals and the River Trent were perfect for a little bit of exploring! As I strolled along, I couldn't resist stopping to admire the beautifully restored old buildings. History really comes alive in this charming town!

A Little Bit of Wildlife

As the afternoon waned, I decided to visit Burton's very own National Brewery Centre! While I was initially drawn in by its grand Victorian architecture, it was the beer garden and it’s resident resident swans that truly stole my heart! Let's be honest, a little birdwatching in between sips of craft beer? I'm always up for a little bit of nature in my day. And those swan cygnets were absolutely adorable! They were all fluff and waddles and oh so playful, diving and splashing in the canal waters.

Tutu Tips for Exploring Burton Upon Trent

If you’re thinking of a visit to this charming little town, here are a few tutu-wearing tips from your friendly neighbourhood ballerina:

  1. Bring your walking shoes! There’s so much to explore in Burton Upon Trent, and trust me, you’ll want to stroll around the cobbled streets and canal banks.

  2. Embrace the history. The National Brewery Centre, with its magnificent Victorian architecture, is just the tip of the iceberg! Be sure to delve into the town's fascinating heritage.

  3. Don't forget your camera! From picturesque bridges to graceful swans, there are photo-worthy moments at every corner.

A Pink Tutu Promise

Before I sign off, a little something for all of you lovely tutu enthusiasts: my aim is to get every one of you wearing a pink tutu! Now, I understand this may sound a bit out there, but the more pink tutus we have out there in the world, the more joy and magic we bring! So, whether it’s for a dance class, a birthday, a day out, or even just a trip to the grocery store, don your pink tutu and let your inner ballerina shine!

Until next time, darlings!
