Twickenham: A Tutu-ful Day Out! 🩰

Hello my darlings! It’s Emma here, your favourite tutu-loving, pink-obsessed ballerina, and today I'm taking you on a little trip with me! You know I can't resist a good day out, and today was no exception!

This morning, I woke up in my Derbyshire cottage with a delightful spring in my step (and a little ache in my legs from yesterday's barre work!) I knew today was going to be a special day, a day to be enjoyed, a day for ballet!

Now, if you know me, you know I love to travel in style. And that means getting out my trusty steed, or should I say, a beautiful old steam train that takes me all around the countryside! It's such a treat for the senses, the puffing and chuffing of the engine, the clinking of the tracks and the soft clickety-clack as we pass through charming little villages. The carriage is luxurious too, and for some reason, a bit of a jaunt by steam train makes me want to pull out the fanciest frock in my wardrobe – today, I went for a floral-patterned dress in a pale, delicious shade of lavender.

And what is a true ballerina to do when embarking on a journey? Of course, pack a special treat – a gorgeous pink tutu! (It’s never too early for a touch of tulle, don’t you agree?) You know I love a good pancake tutu, and it's the perfect outfit for a spontaneous ballet performance! But before you say, "Emma, a ballet performance on a train?"... oh no darling, not on the train itself, but I couldn't resist a quick ballet inspired stop!

The train journey wasn’t long before I found myself stepping onto the cobblestone streets of Twickenham, a lovely little town teeming with life, bustling with people browsing the quaint shops, enjoying the sunshine. It's one of those towns that feel so friendly and welcoming. I just had to visit their local little theatre. The air felt thick with excitement as I approached it. What did it hold within?

As I entered, I felt a wave of pure delight wash over me! The whole place was adorned with gorgeous pink streamers and bows – so much pink, and a sea of giggling ladies in tutus just like me! There was even a stand offering homemade pink lemonade. Perfect. This is what a dream ballet day should feel like.

You know I just couldn't resist a little photo-op outside. The theatre was a perfect backdrop! (For those of you who don't follow me on my Instagram page, @TutuTravels, where I post snippets of my travels, you should see how beautifully that pink tutu matched the colour of the door!).

Once inside, the auditorium had been transformed into a vibrant ballet stage. The air buzzed with energy as dancers, young and old, got ready to put on an amazing show. I watched as these amazing dancers effortlessly moved through beautiful ballet sequences. There was pure joy in the air – and my little pancake tutu was ready to take to the stage!

My favourite part of the performance was a beautiful contemporary dance about a swan. The ballerina, so gracefully embodying the elegant creature, filled the space with emotion through her movement, evoking such a wide range of feelings, from the pure freedom of flight to the gentle fragility of a swan’s beauty.

And as the music began to fade out and the dancers bowed, I was just filled with so much gratitude! It wasn't just the magic of the performance, but this wonderful experience – it reminded me once again why I love being a ballerina, why I love exploring new places, and why I love sharing these adventures with all of you.

But it's not always just about grand stages, you see! Later that afternoon, I decided to continue exploring the little backstreets of Twickenham, admiring the quaint old buildings, stopping in a cute little bakery to pick up a box of fresh bread (a pastry chef who shares the same love for pink is my absolute favourite – they had the most beautiful macarons, so, I indulged!).

This wasn't the end of my ballerina adventure though! My heart still felt alight with the performance, and I found myself drawn towards a lovely park right by the Thames, an ideal place to enjoy the evening sun. My little pancake tutu was still on and ready for some impromptu ballet dancing. The gentle rhythm of the river and the sweet chirping of the birds seemed like the perfect accompaniment as I danced – it felt wonderful to be moving so freely and joyfully. I twirled, I leaped, I imagined I was a beautiful, pink feathered swan. And all around me, people smiled, watching me dance with my full pink tutu in a field of sunshine! (Maybe my pink tutu had been spreading joy!)

It really makes me so happy to share my adventures with you all – even just a small, simple moment like this. Sometimes the most amazing journeys are the ones we don’t plan for. Twickenham truly became an unexpected highlight of my week, a reminder to me of why I do this, why I love what I love.

And maybe this was another reason why today was so special. I think a special message emerged in the course of this particular day: that passion is infectious. I may have started out wearing a pink tutu because I loved wearing a pink tutu - and it had all stemmed from that little seed of passion. And it wasn’t so surprising when I started seeing everyone else joining in with their own special versions of pink-tutu style. It just felt magical! And that’s what it is about this blog, really – I want everyone to experience that feeling, to be excited about their own passion, their own talents. To inspire more creativity.

So that’s my story! Let me know about your pink-tutu adventures! Maybe you’re inspired by this and have decided to whip up your own pancake tutu?! Do share – I want to see your creations and hear all about your adventures. You can also join the discussion over on my Instagram at @TutuTravels!

And never forget – with a pink tutu and a touch of passion, anything is possible! 💖

Much Love,

Emma
