Sutton in Ashfield: A Day of Twirls and Treats! 🩰

Hello my darling readers!

It’s your favourite tutu-loving, pink-obsessed, ballet-mad Emma here, signing in for post number 6595. Today’s adventure? A trip to Sutton in Ashfield! I just had to visit this charming town, famous for its historic market, Victorian architecture and of course, its stunning little theatre where I was performing with my ballet troupe.

My trusty steed - the train! - whisked me there, a journey punctuated by dreaming of twirling under the theatre lights and a surreptitious attempt at perfecting my fouetté in the aisle (don’t tell my neighbours!)

You all know my love for tutus, and today, I chose a particularly bright cyan number that simply sparkled in the daylight! Paired with my trusty ballet flats (pink, of course!), I was a vision of girly loveliness as I made my way to the town centre.

Now, before the show, it was time for some proper, proper treat! I found the most adorable cafe called “Teacups and Tiaras”, a little slice of fairytale heaven with delicious cakes and endless cups of Earl Grey. My heart was positively aflutter with the sight of the vintage teacups, each one a little masterpiece, and I felt like I was stepping out of a storybook. It was a perfect escape before the energy of the performance.

Finally, it was showtime! The theatre was an absolute charmer – all velvet seats and shimmering chandeliers, a setting perfect for our enchanting performance of “Sleeping Beauty”. The energy from the audience was electric! We were met with roaring applause and cheers after each sequence, and I could feel the joy and wonder radiate through the whole auditorium.

I love those moments when I'm completely absorbed in my role, feeling the magic of ballet engulf me, and sharing that with the audience. The moment my partner (a very handsome, very tall, handsome fellow called Daniel) lifted me up in the final grand jeté, I just felt a wave of pure, unadulterated joy. It’s what I live for.

The encore brought us even more applause, and then, in a spontaneous moment of pure magic, the audience started clapping along to our finale! You'd be surprised how many people can remember the rhythm to “The Sugarplum Fairy!” It was pure joy and bliss - and a little bit emotional, if I'm honest.

As I left the theatre, the setting sun painted the sky in gorgeous shades of pink, a fitting farewell for the day. My feet might have been aching, but my heart was soaring!

My trip to Sutton in Ashfield wasn't just a ballet performance; it was a chance to meet amazing new people and see the town through new eyes. I even managed to spot a family of foxes trotting through the park as I walked back to the train station. Wild life adds a touch of magic to every journey, and their sly expressions brought a grin to my face!

If you ever get the chance to visit Sutton in Ashfield, make sure you pop into “Teacups and Tiaras" and be sure to check out the theatre's listings for upcoming shows. It’s a perfect little getaway for those looking for a dose of charm, creativity and community spirit.

But here's a question I'll leave with you today, my lovely readers: what do you think is the best colour for a tutu? I know it's a tricky one, but leave a comment and let me know your favourite!

Until next time,

Emma x
