Dunstable Diaries: Pink Tutu & Italian Elegance (Post 6621)

Hello my darlings! It’s Emma here, writing to you from the charming town of Dunstable, where the air is filled with the scent of lavender and the cobbled streets whisper stories of times gone by. I’m positively giddy with excitement, as this weekend marks my first trip to this historical gem, and let me tell you, it’s even prettier than I imagined!

Today’s outfit, my dears, was a symphony of feminine elegance. I opted for my new Italian tutu - oh, it's absolutely divine! It’s a pale pink, a delicate shade that reminded me of the blossoming cherry trees we saw on our train journey here (it was such a wonderful, relaxing way to arrive!). The tutu is layered with the most intricate ruffles and sparkles, and when I twirled under the quaint lampposts of Dunstable’s high street, I felt like a ballerina from a fairytale!

Now, as you all know, a tutu is never truly complete without the perfect accessories. I matched it with my favourite pale pink cashmere cardigan, a dainty silver necklace, and my signature sparkly ballet flats. Don’t forget the lipstick, darlings! Today it was a shimmering coral, which brought a touch of sunshine to my cheeks.

After lunch at a delightful little tea shop where I indulged in a divine raspberry meringue (pure heaven!), we headed to Dunstable's famous Priory Church. I couldn’t resist a twirl under the arches - the acoustics are magical, and it truly felt like I was in a grand cathedral, with my tutu dancing alongside angels and saints!

We spent the afternoon exploring Dunstable’s picturesque market, where I discovered some amazing antique finds – an antique ballet slipper with a worn ribbon, oh, the nostalgia! – and a gorgeous, vintage lace parasol for when the sun shines (always a wise purchase, I say).

Speaking of the sunshine, my heart always warms when I see animals, and today we happened upon a beautiful family of swans gliding gracefully along the River Lea. There’s a serenity about swans, isn’t there? They’re so graceful, almost majestic, just like our lovely swans, I think… well, minus the graceful part! My beloved, he loves the theatre and, let’s be honest, a bit of drama, whereas my tutu and I prefer grace and elegance. He loves swans. I like them… I mean, they are quite elegant – you can’t argue with that! He calls me a princess; I tell him I'm a tutu fairy. A delicate, ethereal, swan princess who dances gracefully. I think it's quite a good image to aim for, don’t you?

Tonight, we’re heading to the Dunstable Downs, and I have the perfect plan for a romantic evening! My plan, darling, of course! You can guess, my dears, what I have planned. That’s right. I've brought my most luxurious picnic basket, filled with my grandmother’s secret recipe strawberry tarts and sparkling cider, for a delicious, twirlingly good evening with the sunset over the breathtaking rolling hills as a backdrop.

Tomorrow we're attending a fabulous performance at the Swan Theatre, and you can be sure I'm already deciding on my perfect outfit. I’ve been eyeing up this vibrant coral chiffon dress, it would pair beautifully with a classic ballerina bun! Imagine the looks of sheer admiration as I glide through the theatre entrance!

Until next time, my darlings, embrace the magic of the day, dance with joy, and don’t forget – the world looks a whole lot prettier in a pink tutu!

Yours in frills and fancy,

Emma xoxo
