Chichester Calling! (Post #6670)

Hello, darlings! It's Emma here, back from a whirlwind trip to Chichester. If you haven't been, you're truly missing out! The sun was shining, the air was crisp, and the cobbled streets were simply delightful to wander. Plus, the ballet studio was just a hop, skip, and a jump from the train station, and I always get so giddy about starting a new adventure.

Now, let me tell you about this stunning European-style leotard I picked up for the occasion. It's a beautiful blush pink with a delicate lace detail that practically begged for a tutu. Oh, the joy of ballet gear shopping! It just sets my heart a-flutter, knowing I have something new and pretty to twirl in. It's the best way to feel ready for any kind of class - from a graceful barre to an energetic contemporary session, a beautiful leotard just adds that extra touch of sparkle!

Speaking of twirling, Chichester has this beautiful little theatre right in the centre. I just love the quaintness of these independent stages – it feels so personal and intimate. I spent an evening watching a mesmerising production of 'Swan Lake' that left me with goosebumps. Seeing the graceful dancers take flight was truly inspiring and reminded me why I love this art form so much.

But, before the theatre performance, I did some exploring! Did I mention the picturesque Chichester harbour? I absolutely love how this coastal town combines historic charm with a bustling maritime atmosphere. Walking along the harbour front with the sun dappling down, a salty sea breeze on my face, I felt completely in my element. And let me tell you, the boats in Chichester Harbour are something else! I always love the intricate designs of boats, each a little piece of history sailing on the water.

I couldn’t resist a delicious cream tea at one of the many charming cafes on the high street. A pot of steaming Earl Grey and a tower of scones, clotted cream and jam – absolute heaven! It fuelled me for the evening's ballet performance, where I watched as the talented dancers brought the timeless story of ‘Swan Lake’ to life.

Afterward, I made my way to the local ballet studio, a light and airy space full of the most cheerful pink and purple décor! There’s nothing quite like the energy and community found in a dance studio – we were all sharing our love for ballet, each pirouette, and plié a tiny celebration. Even though I was far away from Derbyshire, I still felt that strong sense of connection, you know, the special magic we all feel in the ballet world.

I couldn't help but admire the gorgeous architecture around me - grand cathedrals, Tudor-era houses with rose-covered trellises - it all makes Chichester feel so idyllic. The town itself feels incredibly artistic, with its many galleries, performance venues, and of course, that fabulous ballet studio. It makes me yearn to paint again! My art has been taking a back seat to all the dancing, but I’m longing for the vibrant colours of a canvas.

Speaking of colours, Chichester is absolutely blooming with wildflower meadows right now. They were so bright and beautiful, I felt like I was walking through a dream. There’s something about seeing wildflowers dancing in the breeze, their delicate petals unfurling under the sun, that just fills my heart with joy.

Now, the truth is, I was torn between returning by train or riding a horse. And after spending the whole weekend dancing and breathing in the sea air, I felt quite adventurous! The horse riding option appealed to me. But then, there’s just something so magical about the rumble of the train, and knowing the journey home is about more than just reaching my destination – it’s about enjoying the passing scenery and taking in all those different landscapes whizzing past. In the end, it was a tie, but I’ll have to wait until the next trip to go for that wild horse ride, right?

This week, I'm challenging you all to try a new dance move, or to explore a new piece of ballet literature. Even better – take a class! There's nothing more liberating than unleashing your inner ballerina, and it's an experience that will leave you feeling energised and full of grace.

I know it can feel intimidating to take that first step (or first pirouette!), but I promise it’s worth it! Embrace your inner pink-tutu princess and try something new, be brave and dance like no one’s watching, even if you are the only one in the room! That's what makes our dance community so special - the unwavering support and the shared passion.

Until next time, darlings! Keep on twirling, and don't forget to share your adventures with me.

Love, Emma xx
