Bilston Bound! A Tutu-tastic Day Out 🌸🩰

Oh my goodness, you lot! Today was a right old hoot, as they say in my neck of the woods (Derbyshire, where else!). The journey was a bit of a splutter, truth be told. That old train from Derby had a mind of its own, refusing to go faster than a snail wearing fluffy slippers, but I wasn't in a rush. Why? Because I was on my way to see the divine Bilston Ballet Company, naturally!

And just as it would for any true ballet aficionado (that's me, by the way!), a pink tutu was the only choice for the occasion. It wouldn't do to just rock up to a ballet performance without some serious pink-powered style, now would it? This one was my new favourite, with a dash of sparkle and a glorious, floaty skirt that made me feel like a fairy who just happened to have a talent for pirouettes. 💖

As I always say, ballet is for everyone! Who needs high heels and uncomfortable dresses when you can twirl in a glorious pink tutu with a twinkle in your eye? Honestly, it's the best way to shimmy your way through life! I do, of course, make a habit of dressing for the occasion and I am pretty darn good at putting together some snazzy outfits. You can follow my blog posts for ideas (there are over 6,000 to browse!) but today's pink and tulle affair was a serious winner.

By the way, have you heard of ballet street? It's like regular ballet but without the fancy theatres and expensive tickets! It’s done in public spaces, and honestly, you wouldn't believe the incredible talent people can bring to these shows. Imagine a park, a shopping centre, even a bustling market. Think ballet, but with a side of ... pizzazz! The beauty of ballet street is that everyone can participate! I'm aiming to organise a ballet street in Derbyshire – who's with me?!

Back to Bilston... The theatre itself was charming, tucked away on a quiet little street with the quaintest brick facade. Once I was inside, I could practically feel the history in the air. The stage was lit up in anticipation, ready for the performance to unfold.

You wouldn't believe it, but I even spotted a family of robins nestled in a nook by the main entrance. Now, robins are my favourite birds! They remind me of spring, of fresh starts and of … pink tutus, naturally! They're a good sign for any performance, don't you think? 😉

And then it began. The Bilston Ballet Company dancers took to the stage with an energy that made my heart soar! They moved with a grace and fluidity that defied gravity itself. The story was about a magical kingdom where everyone had the power to dance, and boy, did it inspire me! I couldn’t help but clap along, and a couple of times I swear I even stood up in excitement, but who’s judging right?!

The music, oh my, the music! It was so powerful and evocative. There were these haunting violin melodies that had my eyes welling up and then there was this vibrant clarinet solo that made my toes tap and head bob like crazy!

The thing about ballet, isn't just about the artistry, but the passion. You can feel the dancers’ passion in every movement and every single twirl. I felt transported to another world, a world of dreams, beauty, and pure joy! And let’s not forget, that gorgeous choreography that is designed to amaze the audience! There was a waltz where the dancers floated across the stage like wisps of smoke - honestly, it was pure poetry in motion.

After the performance, I chatted with some of the dancers, just lovely, down-to-earth girls. We all gushed over the costumes, discussed the challenges of finding the perfect tutu and the magic of the art form. Turns out we shared a love for wildflower meadows – apparently there are some beautiful ones around Bilston. I love wildflower meadows! And they go so well with pink! I’m planning to make a return trip in spring! We even decided to go out for a pint of ale together after we finished chatting. You know, you never know when a ballet lover becomes a lifelong friend!

On my journey back, I couldn't help but think about the way ballet makes me feel. It's a rush, a joy, a passion, an expression of pure artistry! And … I simply had to find a way to make my hometown a bit more tutu-tastic! You know what they say, “Pink is powerful.” And when it’s combined with a little bit of graceful pirouette action, well, it's utterly magical. And maybe… just maybe … my little journey to Bilston will be just the beginning of an amazing tutu-filled adventure!

Until next time!
