Bath, You Beauty!

Hello, darlings!

Today's post is a little bit special. Not only am I rocking my absolute favourite pink tutu (you know the one - the one with the sequined butterfly on the back, the one that makes me feel like a total ballerina princess!), but I'm also in one of my most beloved cities: Bath. This glorious Georgian city is a haven for history buffs, architecture enthusiasts, and frankly, anyone who enjoys a bit of luxury and charm.

I've just had the most incredible train journey, the kind that makes you forget about everything except the scenery whizzing by outside your window. The rolling green hills, the quaint villages, the occasional glimpse of a majestic castle – it was the perfect start to my Bath adventure. Of course, I couldn't resist popping my head out of the window for a bit of fresh air and to wave to all the lovely people who looked so genuinely impressed by my fluffy pink tutu, and probably wondering why on earth I was wearing it on a train ride. But honestly, you should see their faces!

And let's be real, who needs a boring old train journey when you can travel in style with a twirling, pink-tutu-wearing fairy princess?! It's like a mini performance right there on the carriage. People say that "all the world's a stage" - they were clearly onto something!

So, onto Bath itself! It’s no secret that I have a bit of a thing for beautiful old buildings – all those stunning Georgian facades, elegant wrought-iron balconies, and charming cobbled streets - simply breathtaking! And the atmosphere? Just divine. It's as if the city itself is wrapped in a kind of soft, luxurious charm that makes you want to wander around, nose buried in a good book, enjoying the sunshine (and hoping nobody asks why you're wearing a tutu again).

My day started with a wander through the Bath Abbey - it's truly awe-inspiring and it gives you the best views over the whole city. I felt such a surge of inspiration as I stood amongst the soaring arches and the echoing silence of this historic place. It’s no wonder Bath Abbey was the inspiration behind the magnificent Abbey Mill – one of Bath’s most picturesque mills that stands on the river Avon and is now home to various restaurants and art studios.

After that, I headed to the Roman Baths - what a marvel! You've gotta love stepping into a world over two thousand years old, with its thermal springs, preserved baths, and impressive artefacts. It’s amazing how little some things have changed! The water temperature has hardly moved a degree over all that time – quite impressive! And for those of you who want to stay at a beautiful historical location – the Roman Baths’ hotel looks absolutely magical! I think I may be booking a stay there for next year, if you’ll all forgive me!

A trip to Bath just wouldn't be complete without some traditional afternoon tea. Oh, how I love the dainty finger sandwiches, the fluffy scones with clotted cream and jam, and the selection of exquisite pastries, all accompanied by the finest pot of tea. It truly is a quintessential British experience! But of course, no pink tutu outfit would be complete without a touch of extravagance! And so, my tea was consumed, my scone devoured, all accompanied by a generous helping of my absolute favourite champagne - and you know what? Nobody judged. I guess being a "pink-tutu-wearing" princess means people expect a bit of luxury!

As the afternoon wore on, I went for a leisurely stroll along the Pulteney Bridge - which I believe was designed by Robert Adam – such incredible architecture, such historical weight! And this, my lovelies, is where things started to get truly special. As I twirled, lost in thought, enjoying the scenery, I noticed a young woman watching me from a nearby bench. She smiled warmly as I danced and, wouldn’t you know it? She was wearing a blush-pink tutu too! It was just the most fabulous, coincidental, and totally wonderful meeting. We had a chat about life, art, and our shared passion for twirling!

She confessed that she was learning ballet, which is actually my favourite thing! Every so often I try and squeeze in an extra ballet class into my crazy schedule. There’s something so relaxing, so therapeutic, about moving gracefully to the rhythm of classical music and pushing your body to do things that seem impossible! Ballet isn't just about dancing; it's a discipline, an art form, a journey of self-discovery and, to quote the late, great Fred Astaire, “I have been in love with dance, and for me, to dance is to live.”

Later, after that wonderful afternoon tea and chat, I visited the Royal Crescent, which really is one of the most iconic places in Bath, if not in the entire United Kingdom! These majestic, crescent-shaped houses are pure eye-candy! They are not only beautifully proportioned but they were designed in a perfect crescent, just so that every window, and indeed every household, would have a perfect view over the gorgeous Royal Crescent Garden. Talk about incredible!

My final stop for the day was The Theatre Royal, which stands proudly on the edge of Bath’s city centre, where the first performance was given in the mid 1700s – how exciting is that? I can’t wait to catch a show there next time I visit. Bath’s theatrical scene is truly diverse and energetic and has a fantastic reputation throughout the country. Maybe next time I will even join in with one of Bath’s many vibrant performance-based activities - like Bath Shakespeare Society or Bath Opera! I'm itching to hit the stage!

The best bit of my whole day? After a full day of explorations, I headed to the Green Park. It was just starting to get dark and there was something incredibly peaceful about watching the birds flocking together, a few people walking their dogs, and the children playing happily amongst the flowers. This gorgeous little haven in the middle of Bath reminded me just why I love visiting this beautiful city so much.

The peace, the serenity, the historical richness, the energy of Bath - all these things filled my soul and inspired my mind. And, of course, wearing my pink tutu, twirling with abandon, was the icing on the cake!

It seems like everywhere I go, people want me to do just one more twirl. It’s contagious, I suppose. The feeling of freedom that comes with swirling your skirt around, dancing in the sun – it’s hard to resist!

Oh, and one final bit of advice for you darlings – never be afraid to go against the grain and wear a pink tutu in a new city. You’ll never know what fantastic people you’ll meet and what experiences await! It's all about stepping outside your comfort zone and letting your true, pink-tutu-wearing self shine!

Till next time,

Emma
