Derby Calling! #TutuBlog 6980

Oh, hello my darling tutu-lovers! Emma here, back from a whirlwind trip to the city of Derby, where I absolutely had to wear my new pink tutu. Yes, I know, a bit dramatic, but you know how it is when a fabulous garment demands to be showcased!

As you know, Derby holds a special place in my heart. It’s where I was born and raised, and my love for ballet truly bloomed there. There’s something magical about the cobbled streets and grand Victorian architecture that just screams “en pointe!”

Now, you wouldn’t believe how many excited eyes followed me as I hopped off the train, my pink tutu swirling around me like a fairytale. I’m convinced that if I wear my tutu out enough, I'll finally convert the entire nation to the wonder that is pink and pointe! My life’s mission, darling, to make ballet accessible and a touch more glamorous!

A Day Filled With Dance & Dreams

My first stop, of course, was Derby Theatre, home to countless inspiring productions and the source of countless dreams for aspiring dancers like myself. I almost jumped with glee when I saw the latest program for their upcoming season - so many beautiful ballets, all ripe for experiencing in my brand-new pink tutu. My eyes are already twirling at the prospect!

Before rushing into the theater itself, I couldn’t resist popping into the adorable independent bookshop nestled next door. It smelled like aged paper and dreams, a haven for any bookworm like me. It was a lovely little detour, just what I needed to rekindle that love of classical ballet that sparked from the first moment I watched Swan Lake.

My afternoon was dedicated to Derby’s wonderful Ballet School, where I had the honour of joining an adult class. We worked on Arabesque positions, those beautiful curves that leave me feeling utterly elegant. After class, the instructor, Miss Amelia, invited me for tea. The room was buzzing with young girls and boys, all enthralled by the grace and poise that makes ballet such a beautiful art. I spent the afternoon talking about all things pink, pointe, and, of course, the importance of wearing a tutu on every occasion possible!

Derby’s Wild Side

After a hearty pub lunch and a generous serving of apple crumble, I ventured out to explore Derby's unexpected green side: the local nature reserve. A quiet, tranquil oasis in the city centre! I felt instantly at peace amidst the trees, listening to birdsong and watching the butterflies flit between the flowers. It’s a magical escape for those who, like me, need a moment to disconnect from the hustle and bustle of life.

I was even lucky enough to spot a curious fox - it darted across my path like a scarlet dream! Its eyes, so intelligent and full of mischief, captivated me. As you know, I have a soft spot for all creatures great and small. A ballet dancer with a wild side? Why not!

My Final Bow in Derby

As the evening descended and stars began to paint the twilight sky, I found myself reflecting on this enchanting journey. It reminded me that the beauty of ballet exists everywhere, even in the most unexpected places. Every moment of this day – from the inspiring ballet performances to the nature reserve, from the enchanting ballet classes to the bustling market square – proved to me that dance, like life, is truly an adventure to be embraced with an open heart.

So, dear friends, have you worn your tutu today? And did you try something new, something unexpected, that took you out of your comfort zone? As always, don’t be afraid to twirl your way through life, dear friends. Wear that pink tutu, go for the arabesque, and let the world watch you pirouette to your own beautiful melody!
