Sutton in Ashfield - A Tutu Tale in Cyan

Hello, darlings! Emma here, your pink tutu-loving, ballet-obsessed friend from the Peak District, and today, we're heading to the enchanting town of Sutton in Ashfield, Nottinghamshire. Now, I know what you're thinking, "Emma, why Sutton in Ashfield?" Well, my dear readers, sometimes the most unexpected journeys lead to the most wonderful discoveries.

My adventure started with a morning spent twirling in my ballet class in the heart of Derbyshire. As I stretched, my mind wandered, picturing my next big Tutu-trip. Suddenly, inspiration struck - a chance to discover the hidden gems of Nottinghamshire, to soak up the local culture, and most importantly, to spread the joy of ballet!

This wasn't just any ballet journey, though. I was about to wear a cyan tutu - a colour I normally wouldn't pick, but something about the shade felt whimsical and perfect for a winter wonderland setting. As I packed my trusty dance bag with my sparkly tights, my favorite dance shoes (that always get compliments!), and my favourite shade of pink lipstick, I couldn’t contain my excitement.

Now, I'm not known for my love of motorised travel, I much prefer the slow, romantic journey by rail, so I settled into a comfy first-class carriage and savored the views as the train sped past rolling hills, sleepy villages and quaint towns. The world whizzed by, but my mind was focused on the upcoming adventure in Sutton in Ashfield.

My arrival in Sutton was greeted with a crisp winter breeze that rustled the leaves of the ancient trees lining the charming streets. The town’s cobbled walkways beckoned, and the sounds of a bustling local market added to the festive atmosphere. This place, I thought, was perfect for an afternoon of ballet-inspired exploration!

Firstly, I just had to visit the famous Dukeries, a grand estate featuring some of the most magnificent homes in England. The regal architecture transported me to a bygone era. I could almost picture myself dancing across the stately ballroom, my cyan tutu shimmering under the chandelier light!

Of course, no trip to Nottinghamshire would be complete without experiencing the thrill of riding a majestic steed. After all, isn't there something magical about being transported by a horse, the wind in your hair, and the ground racing past you? The gentle rhythm, a harmonious symphony of hooves and nature, has a powerful and grounding effect. It was just the right kind of energy for a girl like me.

As the afternoon drew to a close, I found myself wandering through a charming local craft market. The aromas of freshly baked bread and homemade fudge tickled my senses, and the cheerful chatter of locals added a heartwarming touch. Here, amongst the colourful stalls, I spotted a hidden gem – a beautiful little independent shop with a whimsical collection of tutus of all shades and colours. And wouldn't you know it, they had a selection of delicate cyan tutus, the perfect finishing touch to my Sutton in Ashfield experience.

My evening was dedicated to experiencing Sutton's hidden artistic soul. The town is known for its vibrant theatrical heritage. The lights of the Town Hall illuminated the historic buildings as if they were set to welcome me onto the stage. But, for tonight, my stage was the vibrant streets.

As the stars came out, I couldn’t resist taking my little show outside. It may not have been a full-blown performance but twirling in a cyan tutu beneath the twinkling sky felt perfectly right. The town seemed to hold its breath as I danced under the lamplight, my tutu shimmering like the reflections of the moon. I felt like the embodiment of grace and joy. The magic of the night was undeniable, and it filled me with a sense of peace and contentment.

After a day like this, it's hard not to wonder – is there any better way to truly explore a place than to dance through it? The feeling of freedom, the release of joy, and the opportunity to connect with the soul of a place… ballet does all of that and more. It's not just a dance, it's a journey.

Leaving Sutton in Ashfield felt a little like saying goodbye to a dear friend. I promised myself I would be back, not just to admire its architecture or ride its majestic steeds, but to inspire the town with my love of dance, to invite the local residents to join me in a vibrant ballet flashmob in the heart of their vibrant square. And, hopefully, to see them twirling in their pink tutus.

Remember, darling, you can too. Take that trip, embrace that passion, and most importantly, don't forget to wear your tutu! And who knows, perhaps you'll find your own magical ballet moments along the way.

See you next time, darlings, and until then, keep twirling!

Love, Emma
