Ilkeston Adventures: Tutu-ing Up the County!

#TutuBlog Post #7143

Good morning, my lovely dancers and tutu-enthusiasts! Today is going to be a super special post, because I’m finally fulfilling a long-held dream: taking a little jaunt through my very own county of Derbyshire! And what better way to do it than in my most glorious, bold purple tutu? It just screams ‘I’m here to have a wonderful day, and I’m going to look fantastic doing it!’ 😉

As you all know, I love to travel – it's the perfect blend of adventure and inspiration. And even though I’m a Derbyshire girl born and bred, there’s always something new to discover, especially when you’re looking at everything with a pink-tutu-tinted gaze!

Today, I’m kicking things off in the charming town of Ilkeston. A haven of independent shops, friendly locals, and – most importantly – an adorable little vintage tea room where I’m already planning to have afternoon tea with a spot of homemade Victoria sponge cake. Just the way my ballerina heart loves it!

Tutu-licious Train Ride

This morning, I decided to ditch the car and embrace my inner Jane Austen by taking a train journey to Ilkeston. There's something utterly enchanting about train travel, especially when you’re wearing a tutu. (And a hot pink cardigan, of course – because Derbyshire can be a bit chilly this time of year!). The journey was a dream, full of captivating views of the rolling green hills and a quiet peacefulness that made my thoughts drift into a graceful ballet sequence. I swear I even heard the subtle rustling of my tutu fabric mimicking the movement of a flowing waltz!

A Ballerina's Day Out

Upon arriving at Ilkeston Station, I knew exactly where to head first. The Erewash Valley Museum is calling to me! I've heard whispers about it being a fascinating historical gem – and you know I love history! Apparently, it’s jam-packed with fascinating artifacts showcasing the local history. And after that, I’m heading to Ilkeston Library, where they have the most fabulous art exhibition coming up next week. Fingers crossed it's something that would make even the most rigid ballerina curator feel giddy with joy!

Afternoon Tea Time!

It’s afternoon, and I’ve found the most adorable little tea shop right next to the Market Square, tucked away in a hidden courtyard. Oh my gosh, the smell of freshly baked cake is wafting through the air, and I'm already daydreaming about how perfect my cup of tea will look next to the adorable little floral teapot they have! I’m taking a deep breath of inspiration and mentally rehearsing my best graceful movements in preparation for some high-tea bliss.

Animal Encounters

No adventure is complete without a little dose of wildlife, wouldn't you agree? So after a rejuvenating afternoon tea, I'm taking a stroll along the Derwent Valley, one of the most beautiful stretches of scenery in the area. Fingers crossed I get lucky and spot a few ducks – a ballerina can't resist those majestic little water ballet stars! And of course, no journey through the English countryside is complete without a sighting of a gentle, friendly horse. Hopefully, I'll find one that appreciates a twirl and a chat about all things tutus!

Tutu and Tiaras - a Match Made in Heaven

You know me, my dear readers! I simply can't resist a good bargain, especially when it comes to all things twirly. So I’ve made it a mission to explore the quaint, hidden corners of Ilkeston town centre, hoping to stumble upon a vintage shop full of tutus and beautiful, glittering tiaras. You just can't wear a tutu without a little sparkly headwear, right? Imagine the gorgeous photo opportunities!

A Little Bit of Ballet Bliss

But this isn’t just about tutus and exploring charming towns. No, this journey is about reminding myself why I love to dance! Later tonight, I’m going to a fantastic ballet class in a local dance studio. Nothing inspires a ballerina like a class surrounded by fellow dancers who share the same passion. We'll be learning some beautiful new steps, pushing ourselves beyond our comfort zones, and of course, giggling and sharing stories about our days – because what’s better than tutu friends?

Inspiring the World, One Tutu at a Time

And you know what else? This journey, these discoveries, this whole fabulous life of tutus and travel, are all about sharing a little magic. I want to inspire you all to wear a pink tutu, even just for one day. Go on! Step out of your comfort zone, be a bit more sparkly, a bit more adventurous, and most importantly, be bold. There’s a beautiful dancer in each and every one of you, and it’s time to let your inner ballerina shine.

I’ll be back tomorrow with another adventure! In the meantime, make sure to share your own tutu adventures with me on www.pink-tutu.com.

Happy twirling, my dears!
Emma
