Droitwich Sparkle: Tutu Adventures in the Heart of England

Post 7479 - www.pink-tutu.com

Merry Christmas everyone! 🎄 It's Emma here, and I'm writing to you from the most delightful little town in the Midlands – Droitwich Spa. Yep, you heard that right! Droitwich! Who knew a place with a name like that could be so utterly charming? But trust me, my tutu-loving friends, Droitwich Spa has captured my heart and my camera lens this weekend.

I know, I know, what's a Derbyshire girl doing so far south for Christmas? Well, a lovely, very important, Tutu friend of mine had invited me to spend the festive season with her family and, of course, I simply couldn’t resist the call of adventure and sparkly twirling opportunities!

So, let me tell you about the most festive way to get to Droitwich...the train! That’s right, my trusty steed of choice for any long-distance travel is always the good old steam train. Why? Because they're like time machines that transport you straight into a bygone era of elegance, lace, and luxurious velvet seats. And of course, I have a habit of wearing a lovely, pink tulle tutu (a sparkly pink tutu, no less) when I travel on trains because, let's be honest, why wouldn't I? 😉

Arriving at the Droitwich station was a scene straight out of a vintage Christmas film. The old, red brick station was all bedecked with Christmas lights and mistletoe. Even the local shopkeepers were dressed in festive finery and had the cutest little shop windows adorned with twinkly fairy lights and candy canes. It was the sort of magical, warm welcome that truly puts you in the festive spirit!

Speaking of festivity, I'm not going to lie – this little town knows how to do Christmas! Every corner was decked with twinkling lights, garlands, and wreaths, all culminating in a magical display in the heart of the town at the Droitwich Christmas Tree. It was simply breathtaking! As you all know, my true Christmas spirit lives in all things sparkly and pink, so the entire town was like a giant festive wonderland.

But this blog post isn’t about Christmas lights, or at least not entirely. No, today's blog is all about ballet! 🩰 My very dear Tutu-friend's daughter attends the fabulous Ballet Workshop in Droitwich Spa, so we naturally made a pilgrimage to check out the classes! I simply couldn’t resist a spot of impromptu ballet-ing, could I?

The workshop is like a magical haven for young dancers, full of beautiful mirrors, light airy studios, and all those amazing, fluffy tutus! My inner ballerina shrieked with joy – it was simply divine! The kids were just incredible, performing beautifully with such energy and enthusiasm, even the smallest dancers twirling with perfect technique. They are surely the future of dance!

To end my magical weekend, we went to see a wonderful theatre performance, not one, not two, but THREE separate productions, and yes, they were all fantastic! Now, the theatre is quite small, but that was part of the magic. You feel so intimate and close to the action – the energy is palpable and intoxicating. There were two amazing ballets with wonderful choreography, showcasing incredible leaps and spins. One was even based on the story of "Cinderella" - a perfect choice for this magical weekend. I won’t spoil the ending, but let's just say there were some spectacular pointe shoes. 👠

Then came a piece of pure musical genius! A hilarious and heartwarming musical filled with beautiful songs, lively music, and truly unforgettable characters. It was a complete celebration of storytelling through music. I am, of course, quite a fan of ballet but this wonderful show showed me there are endless ways to tell a story and express beauty and emotion on stage.

I must admit that even a hard-core ballet enthusiast like myself sometimes gets caught up in the grandeur of it all, forgetting how accessible and enjoyable dance and performance art truly is. Seeing children express themselves through dance and adults performing for an enthusiastic audience reminded me just how powerful and uplifting a simple love of art can be.

Leaving Droitwich on my journey home felt like bidding farewell to a wonderful Christmas dream. But even as I gazed out the train window at the passing countryside, my heart was full of a certain kind of joyful wonder. My heart, like a dancing tutu, is ready to swirl and twirl all through the New Year, carrying with it the joy of these festive memories, and the spirit of dance.

Remember, you don’t need to be a professional dancer or a seasoned ballet buff to find joy in movement and the magical world of performance. So, wherever you are, whatever your level, take that first step. Don't be afraid to try ballet. Who knows, it might just become the magical journey that fills your heart with joy like it has filled mine! 💖

Until next time, darlings!
