Derby Calling: A Tutu-tastic Day Out!

Hello, darlings! It's your favourite tutu-loving, ballet-obsessed blogger, Emma, here, ready to take you on a whirlwind journey through the heart of Derbyshire! This week, I decided to escape the city bustle for a dose of fresh air and a bit of classic charm – and of course, no trip is complete without a perfectly pink tutu!

Now, if you've been following my blog for a while, you'll know that I'm a big fan of trains. Something about chugging through the countryside, the rhythmic clatter of wheels on track, and the occasional glimpse of a field full of fluffy sheep, just puts me in the most wonderfully dreamy mood. So, after packing my tutu (naturally!), a good book, and a flask of chamomile tea (gotta stay hydrated!), I boarded the train to Derby.

Derby, for those who haven't had the pleasure, is a delightful little city with a rich history, beautiful parks, and some rather lovely architecture. And, wouldn't you know it, they even have a charming theatre called The Theatre Royal. My ears pricked up at that! It seemed fate was calling me to a ballet performance.

I spent the afternoon strolling through the city centre, my bright pink tutu catching every eye (and, let me tell you, the smiles were infectious!). The sunshine glinted off the cobbled streets, giving the city an air of gentle magic. I even had the chance to chat with a couple of local artists who had set up their stalls in the market square. One was even selling stunning hand-painted silk scarves inspired by classic ballet movements! Can you imagine how beautiful they would look against a tutu? My creative mind was spinning with possibilities!

The Theatre Royal was just as charming as I had imagined, with grand red velvet curtains, ornate balconies, and even a charming little tea room where I had a delicious scone and a pot of Darjeeling (my current tea obsession, darling). Then it was showtime! I found a seat, my pink tutu fitting perfectly with the grandeur of the theatre. The performance itself was exquisite, a beautiful contemporary ballet inspired by nature, with graceful movements and vibrant costumes.

Of course, a day out wouldn't be complete without a little bit of wildlife spotting! After the show, I ventured to the Derby Arboretum, a stunning oasis of greenery tucked away in the city centre. I was absolutely captivated by the squirrels scampering up and down the ancient oak trees. Honestly, those little creatures are the epitome of ballet-like grace – they leap, bound, and twirl with effortless fluidity. It got me thinking: maybe ballet should have more squirrels… just an idea, darling!

And finally, to truly embody the spirit of Derbyshire, I couldn't leave without a visit to the local horse stables. It's a tradition of mine – whenever I travel to a new place, I try to meet at least one majestic horse. Well, at Derby stables, I met an adorable pony called "Twinkle" – such a fitting name for a creature who can seemingly perform magic! It’s incredible how those powerful animals can move with such grace and strength. They certainly deserve more credit for inspiring ballet!

Now, I understand some of you may be thinking, “Emma, pink tutu at a horse stable? Is that even a thing?” Well, why not?! The key to life, my darling, is embracing your passions and bringing a little sprinkle of joy wherever you go! So, even though my horse-loving journey did involve a bright pink tutu, let me assure you, it was a magnificent moment that left a beautiful, glittering memory in my heart.

My day in Derby was nothing short of magical! I felt inspired, energised, and filled with the same enchanting energy I find in every ballet performance. As I write this, I'm back at home, but my spirit is still soaring. The experience reminded me once again: we can find magic in the simplest things – a stroll through a park, a beautifully crafted ballet, a horse named Twinkle… It’s all about being open to the wonder that life has to offer, embracing every colour, every dance, and every inspiring moment. And, darling, never forget: the world is a better place when you're twirling in a pink tutu. Until next time!

P.S. What are your favourite ways to embrace a little bit of ballet magic in your life? I'd love to hear your stories in the comments!
