Hastings: Where Dreams Take Flight (and Pink Tutรบs are Totally Acceptable)
Hey lovelies! ๐
Itโs Emma here, reporting live from the glorious seaside town of Hastings, Sussex! This weekend, I traded my trusty steed (a.k.a. the Derbyshire countryside) for the scenic beauty of the South Coast, and I can't wait to share my adventures with you.
As always, my faithful pink tutu travelled with me โ after all, how can you possibly explore a new place without a touch of ballet-inspired flair? And let's face it, pink is just so much more vibrant against the backdrop of the ocean. ๐๐
Speaking of vibrancy, Hastings was an absolute riot of colour. I just adore seaside towns โ the smell of salty air, the sound of seagulls crying overhead, and the colourful seaside paraphernalia (and yes, I do mean those bright orange beach huts!). But Hastings was truly special.
The first thing that grabbed me was the Hastings Pier. Itโs one of those iconic structures, just bursting with character and history. I imagine it's seen countless sunrises and sunsets, the echoes of laughter and the roar of the waves throughout the years. Itโs a true testament to the resilience of the British spirit โ they even rebuilt it after it burned down in 2010! Hats off to that! ๐
And as soon as I stepped foot onto the pier, my inner ballerina couldnโt help but start swirling. Just picture it โ a delicate pink tutu dancing amidst the sea breeze, the rhythm of the waves my tempo. It was pure ballet bliss! I might have even performed a mini pas de deux with the seagull on a nearby bench! ๐
Speaking of seagulls, we were so fortunate to spot a pod of dolphins swimming off the coast, too! They were truly majestic, their sleek bodies moving with such effortless grace and fluidity โ just like a dancer in their element. I could have watched them for hours. ๐
Later, I explored the quaint cobbled streets of Hastings, discovering charming shops filled with artisanal treasures and antique curios. Itโs amazing how many hidden gems these little towns hold, you just need to open your eyes and wander. And what better way to explore than with a pink tutu, right? ๐
I also took in a captivating performance at the Hastings Borough Theatre, which I simply had to tell you about. It wasn't your typical ballet production, but rather a beautifully crafted blend of contemporary dance, mime, and music that truly resonated with my soul. I swear I could almost feel the dancerโs energy pulsate through the air, so raw and intense, it was captivating! Afterward, I even met the choreographer for a chat, such a lovely and inspirational woman, and of course, we both agreed โ tutus make everything better. ๐
The food was divine, too! Hastings, just like all seaside towns, is a culinary dream, overflowing with fresh seafood, crispy fish and chips, and oh-so-tasty homemade cakes. Let's not forget those charming little cafes that serve steaming hot cups of tea and scrumptious scones with clotted cream, perfect for a midday pick-me-up! โ๏ธ
One of my favorite discoveries was the Hastings Mural Trail, a collection of street art masterpieces scattered throughout the town. Itโs just the kind of creative inspiration I adore. There were abstract designs, bold colours, and even life-size murals depicting famous local figures โ an absolute feast for the eyes! Every wall told a story, a vibrant splash of colour and imagination in a sea of grey concrete. ๐จ
You know whatโs really special about Hastings, though? It has this magical aura of peace and serenity that envelops you. The air is crisp, the sounds of the waves crashing against the shore a soothing lullaby. I think I felt myself getting grounded in the earthiness of the place. Maybe it was the breathtaking vista of the English Channel stretching before me, or perhaps the vibrant tapestry of the quaint cobbled streets, or even the simple pleasure of a leisurely walk along the beach.
But as the weekend came to a close, my time in Hastings came to an end. The air was bittersweet as I took one last lingering look at the turquoise waters and waved goodbye to this charming coastal paradise.
And as I boarded the train, back to the Derbyshire countryside, I couldnโt help but smile. This pink tutu-loving, ballet-obsessed girl had left a little bit of pink magic in Hastings, and it felt like Hastings had gifted me a little bit of magic in return. I felt re-inspired, re-energized, and ready to bring back a piece of the seaside serenity to my everyday life.
After all, a little bit of ballet โ in any form โ and a healthy dose of pink, can truly brighten any day. ๐
Till next time, lovelies! ๐
