#TutuBlog Post #7830: A German Tutu Tale (2017-12-10)
Hello darlings! It's Emma here, your pink-tutu-loving, ballet-obsessed gal, back from another fabulous adventure! Today I'm waltzing into your feed straight from the heart of Germany, where I've been swirling and twirling my way through a whirlwind of cultural delights and a tutu tale to die for.
But before we get to the tutu drama (because you know that's my jam!), let me tell you about my journey. Leaving Derbyshire behind, I embarked on a scenic train ride across the British countryside. Honestly, there's nothing like a good old-fashioned train journey to get your creativity flowing! The rolling green hills, the quaint villages whizzing past, it's all so utterly picturesque.
Then, arriving at the station in Frankfurt, I felt like Cinderella stepping out of the pumpkin carriage. The air crackled with excitement, and I just knew this trip was going to be extra special.
And you know me, darlings, when I'm in a new city, I dive right in. My first stop? The Ballet Museum! Imagine a wonderland of costumes, shoes, and historical memorabilia from ballet's glorious past. It was like stepping into a fairy tale, except instead of glass slippers, I was surrounded by exquisite tutus and delicate pointe shoes. You'd have thought I'd walked into my own personal dream!
But then, the tutu saga started to unfold! Turns out, Germany has its own brand of ballet style – a unique take on tutus that are not quite like what I’m used to, You could call them “German Tutus,” which honestly sounds very funny! They're definitely bolder and more theatrical, all bold colours, with interesting shapes and textures, quite the statement! It's not all about elegance and simplicity in Germany, the ballet here has so much personality.
Next on the itinerary, was a performance by the German Ballet Company. I'd heard whispers of their extraordinary artistry, and oh, it lived up to every ounce of hype! They glided and leaped with such grace, and the tutus... well, I’m talking, giant flowing tutus that took centre stage. Some of them seemed almost like a sculpture - like they were a character of their own, a ballet-ready monument, all sweeping, theatrical movements.
It got me thinking about how important tutus are to a ballet dancer's performance. A tutu isn’t just a piece of clothing, It embodies that delicate balance of strength, grace, and sheer beauty that embodies the essence of ballet itself.
But darling, here’s where the real story begins. You know I've been wanting to incorporate a bit more flair into my ballet routines - that extra something to set me apart! I've been yearning for something dramatic, something playful! Well, during my ballet lesson at the Frankfurt Ballet School, I met the most wonderful woman who happened to own a custom tutu shop - imagine my joy! I told her my vision - something that captured that vibrant, joyous energy that defines German tutus - and we started collaborating!
She even helped me select a gorgeous shade of pink that really made my inner diva blush with happiness. You just had to see my face when I tried it on, I think I may have had a twirl fit on the spot! We went for something that had some really striking detail - some very special touches of tulle, that almost looked like a burst of glitter. You can imagine, my darlings, it's going to be quite a sight to behold. I simply cannot wait to unveil it in my next performance back home!
This experience is just another reminder, why I love travelling so much. It opens my mind, it pushes me to evolve as an artist, and, most importantly, it fills my world with exciting new possibilities. I feel absolutely overflowing with creativity - I can’t wait to see what other tutus adventures this year brings!
Oh, I also discovered the most adorable little boutique with a charming collection of pink shoes and hats. It was like a dream, and guess who went a little bit shopping-crazy? Just me!
The entire city has been an explosion of colours, vibrant markets, beautiful architecture, and of course, endless opportunities for ballet-inspired discoveries!
Speaking of which, have you seen my latest #BalletStreet video? I was inspired to film it while exploring the streets of Frankfurt, it’s definitely got a German vibe to it! It’s already up on www.pink-tutu.com. You won’t want to miss it.
Well darlings, I hope you're ready to put on your most fabulous pink tutus and twirl right into the weekend!
Yours in pink, Emma
