Leith Calling! Tutu Adventures in the Scottish Capital (Blog Post #7881)
Hello darlings! It’s Emma here, your friendly neighbourhood tutu-wearing adventurer, and I'm just bursting with excitement to share my latest escapades! This time, I've traded the rolling green hills of Derbyshire for the rugged charm of Scotland, specifically the vibrant, colourful little harbour town of Leith, nestled right next to the mighty Edinburgh.
I've got to tell you, Leith is simply brimming with character! Think cobbled streets, historic pubs, charming little cafes and oh, the fresh sea air – divine! I've always been a bit of a romantic at heart, and the history, the energy and the stories of Leith instantly made me feel right at home.
Speaking of homes, let's talk about my outfit! This time, I've opted for a German-inspired tutu. It’s this beautiful pale pink, almost like a sunrise over the mountains. You know I adore my tutus, and this one's just so swirly and whimsical. The perfect balance of elegant and fun, if I do say so myself. The way it sways in the breeze as I walk... well, it makes me want to dance in the streets!
Speaking of dancing...
The Majestic World of Dance
Yes, Edinburgh has its fair share of majestic ballet! It seems this city is practically buzzing with ballerinas. From classical masterpieces to more modern interpretations, the Scottish capital really has it all. I had the absolute privilege of attending a performance by the Edinburgh Ballet at the Playhouse, and let me tell you, I was mesmerised!
The performance was a swirling mix of light and shadow, powerful emotions, and breathtaking movements. I mean, the grace of those dancers! And the story... Oh, I just don't even have the words! The whole experience left me utterly inspired. The way the story was told without even needing words, just with body language and music, left me feeling absolutely raptured.
Now, I’ve never been shy about my own love for ballet. Every morning, I religiously make my way to the local studio here for my own private practice session, before a good old cuppa and scone, naturally. Because honestly, is there any better way to start your day?
The studios here are quite different to the ones back home, though. Here in Leith, I find myself drawn to these beautifully airy studios, often tucked away in forgotten corners. But somehow, this just adds to the mystique and charm.
My biggest takeaway from all this dancing, though? The pure joy of it all! It doesn't matter if you’re a professional, a seasoned amateur like myself, or simply someone who wants to express themselves through movement – ballet is about freedom, about connection, and about letting your spirit soar!
And, don't you worry, darlings, I'm planning on bringing my ballet adventures to you, my beloved Pink-Tutu family, with some seriously fun video tutorials very soon! We’re going to bring the spirit of Leith’s ballet scene straight to your living room!
Leith’s Quirky Charm
The dancing wasn’t the only thing that stole my heart. I've had a grand old time exploring the nooks and crannies of this historic town, always keeping an eye out for the most colourful spots. This city seems to be bursting at the seams with stories just waiting to be discovered.
I spent an afternoon meandering through the historic docklands, imagining the bustling energy of ships coming and going, the scent of salt in the air, and the calls of sailors echoing across the harbour. I've also visited the Museum of Scottish Photography, a real gem for those who love to be swept away by visuals and moments in time. It’s also a treasure trove of stories and a place for me to reflect on the art of capturing beauty and moments.
Oh, and how can I forget about the incredible views? Leith has a pretty epic vantage point overlooking the Firth of Forth. It's quite the sight! And when I was at the top of Arthur’s Seat (I did it, darlings!), the panorama of the entire city just stole my breath away!
Of Horses, Trains and Wildlife
You might think, Emma, how do you possibly go on an adventure without a trusty steed, and a quick train journey?
My heart beats for the countryside, which means I just had to take a trip on one of Scotland's picturesque train lines! The rolling hills, the quaint little villages, and the dramatic coastlines just blew my mind! My day was complete when I stumbled upon a hidden meadow filled with wild flowers, a tiny stream winding its way through the grass, and… well, a family of rabbits hopping around as if no one was watching!
This town truly is full of beautiful surprises, hidden around every corner. Oh, and don't even get me started on the animals! We've got the harbour seals bobbing around like happy little penguins, and the playful gulls screaming their heads off (which I find hilarious, but maybe that’s just me).
Of course, I just couldn't leave Leith without experiencing its local horse stables, or rather the Highland Riding Experience. These gentle, powerful steeds seem to carry the weight of history on their backs. They gave me a wonderful opportunity to connect with nature on a truly primal level. I’ll never forget the feeling of riding through the wind, a gentle reminder of our connection to the ancient world.
Spread the Pink Tutu Love!
Leith truly stole a little bit of my heart. It’s an embodiment of the perfect balance: heritage, vibrancy, adventure, beauty and that unique Scottish magic! This is definitely a city I can’t wait to revisit again and again. And who knows, maybe I’ll even find another gorgeous tutu in a hidden little shop here!
But until then, let me know your own thoughts on this post! What’s your favourite part? And tell me, darlings, how do you think I’d do in a highland dance? Would you want to see me try?
I promise I’ll share more from Leith soon. Until then, let your hearts be filled with love and pink tutu joy.
With love and twirls,
Emma x
