Whitley Bay Whirlwind: Tutu Tales from the Seaside

#TutuBlog 7931

Sunshine streaming through the window, a gentle breeze whispering secrets through the open door, and a symphony of birdsong - a perfect morning to embrace a day of whimsy and dance in Whitley Bay! I swear, this seaside town just gets under my skin in the best way possible.

Pink-tutu dreams on the horizon

You know how much I love a bit of colour, and a seaside town is a perfect playground for the inner rainbow enthusiast in me! I mean, what's more exhilarating than spotting a flamingo-pink beach hut with a turquoise roof, or watching a seagull strut its stuff in the brightest blue? Speaking of struts, it's no secret that I adore a good twirl in my trusty pink tutu, so Whitley Bay, with its picturesque pier and salty air, seemed the ideal place to let my tutu do its thing!

From Derby to the Tyne: A Railway Ramble

And as usual, I opted for a vintage railway journey for my escapades! My Derbyshire roots will forever call me back to the charm of chugging through the countryside. As I gazed out the window, the rolling green fields whizzed by, painted with splashes of wildflowers. I love how the rhythmic rumble of the train almost mimics the rhythm of a barre, you know? A perfect way to kick off a day of ballet inspiration.

Sea-breeze Barre and Ballet Delights

Whitley Bay, oh Whitley Bay, you’re just overflowing with balletic charm. This charming coastal town nestled along the Northumberland coast has become a true gem in my tutu-travel repertoire! With its captivating ocean views and friendly seaside spirit, it's the perfect place to unwind and let the balletic inspiration flow.

After a bracing walk along the promenade, I was absolutely giddy to head to the "Ballet by the Beach" class offered by the Whitley Bay School of Dance. A symphony of giggles filled the air as a group of eager dancers, ranging from teenagers to seasoned ballerinas like myself, unpacked our ballet bags and took our places. With the soothing scent of the sea in the air and the rhythm of the waves as our soundtrack, we flowed through our routines.

It's magical, you know? To feel the sand between your toes one minute and then grace a stage or barre the next. I can’t resist the thrill of dancing with the open sky as my backdrop, especially with the golden rays of the setting sun painting the horizon. The joy I feel from these coastal ballet adventures is pure and exhilarating.

Whale Watch & Wildlife Wonders

I must confess, I've been a bit obsessed with whales recently. The graceful elegance of these ocean giants is so captivating, a powerful dance in the vastness of the sea. The North Sea offers an abundance of wildlife opportunities, from the charmingly playful seals to the impressive sight of leaping dolphins. Even catching a glimpse of a tiny seabird with its little head cocked inquisitively as it waddles on the beach sends a surge of excitement through me. It's a reminder that ballet is everywhere – in the way a seagull balances on one leg or a wave crashes rhythmically against the shore.

Pink Tutu, seaside picnic, and theatre dreams

But of course, no trip to the seaside is complete without a perfectly pink picnic. Let me tell you, my wicker basket packed with pastel pink lemonade and homemade macarons is quite the sight, especially when placed against a backdrop of the blue skies and bright beach umbrellas!

That evening, a show at the Playhouse Theatre had me feeling utterly inspired! Watching the ballet unfold with the theatre lights casting dancing shadows on the audience – well, it felt like a symphony of pure magic. From the delicate steps to the exhilarating leaps, the performances evoked emotions that swept me away. There's something incredibly uplifting about watching live dance – it reawakens that childlike awe within you, leaving you with a renewed sense of wonder.

Inspiring the world, one pink tutu at a time

If you ask me, there's nothing quite as magical as seeing someone smile at the sight of a twirling pink tutu. Seeing kids run up to me at the pier with eyes full of wonder – it just melts my heart! So why not join me in making the world a little more twirly and a whole lot more fun? Who knows, maybe you'll discover the beauty of ballet within you too!

But before I head back to Derby with a head full of sea breeze and a heart filled with inspiration, remember this: wear your colours with confidence, let your inner ballerina shine, and remember – a life without a good pirouette or two is a life unlived!
