Hitchin: A Tutu-ful Trip to the Home of the "Dancing on Air" Festival
Post number 7942
Hello darlings! Emma here, your favourite pink-tutu-wearing ballerina, ready to share another day of tutu-tastic adventures with you all! Today, I'm whisking you away to the charming market town of Hitchin, a hidden gem nestled in Hertfordshire. And yes, I'm wearing my brightest pink tutu! This little number practically screams "prima ballerina" and with a dash of sparkle, of course. I always say, why be just a regular tourist when you can be a Tutu Tourist?
My journey started with a ride on the train - my preferred method of travel, especially when you're going for a day trip and don't want to fuss with car parking. The train was lovely and clean and, for once, a fellow passenger even complimented my tutu - I think she just loved that bit of whimsy!
Hitchin itself was delightful! Cobblestone streets, quirky little shops overflowing with handmade crafts and antiques, and a park full of cheerful families enjoying the sunshine. But it was the "Dancing on Air" Festival that drew me here.
Now, for those who don't know, "Dancing on Air" is an annual event in Hitchin, and this year, it featured the most amazing air displays with hot air balloons of every imaginable shape and size. Think dinosaurs, elephants, butterflies, even a gigantic dancing bear! And the colour! A breathtaking kaleidoscope of bright pinks, soft oranges, deep blues and swirling greens! My camera nearly overheated taking pictures. You should've seen me, standing amidst a field of daisies, surrounded by magnificent airborne sculptures - a sight that truly inspired me.
The festival had a wonderfully "tutu" feel - a whimsical atmosphere filled with laughter and wonder. It truly embodied that spirit of childlike joy that we all need to nurture in our lives.
My "Tutu Tourist" day didn't end there! As the day gave way to dusk, we walked down to Hitchin’s theatre and had the most divine time watching a ballet performance. The talent was superb, with a stunning finale where the dancers effortlessly pirouetted across the stage in their bright tutus. They looked positively ethereal! This really was my kind of theatre. And a lovely coincidence - the final act had a ballerina performing on the moon!
After the ballet, we treated ourselves to a delicious ice cream, which was practically a work of art in itself - think swirls of strawberry and lemon with sprinkles! And a cheeky little meringue at the top, of course! You just can't leave a sweet treat off your travel itinerary.
Now, as I write this, I’m sitting in my favourite spot in the Derbyshire countryside, feeling truly grateful for this day trip. It reminded me of the beauty in the world, the power of art and the wonder of being surrounded by friends who appreciate my love for pink tutus.
I believe everyone should experience the joy of ballet - even just a short class! It teaches you about grace, self-expression, and discipline. And of course, those adorable tutus! You don’t need to be a ballerina to rock one – a little pink tulle and a bit of confidence can take you anywhere!
Speaking of confidence, my dear readers, let’s not forget: we all have a unique inner ballerina inside of us, waiting to come out. Maybe we can all channel this tutu-ful energy to create our own beautiful and inspiring “dancing on air” moments every single day.
And until my next post, keep your tutus fluffy and your spirits high!
