Darlington Daze: A Red Tutu Adventure!

#TutuBlog #8316

Hello my lovelies! Emma here, back from another whirlwind adventure! It's been a little while since I've graced you with my daily dose of pink and tutus, but I promise, this post is packed full of both. Today's journey? The beautiful town of Darlington!

It’s all very well waltzing through the streets of Derby (I still call it home, no matter where my little dancing feet take me!), but sometimes a girl needs a change of scenery. A change of, let's say, turf, is perhaps more accurate given my travel preferences! No planes for me, darling! Just the smooth, steady chug of a steam train, and the gentle swaying rhythm of a horse-drawn carriage – both bringing me ever closer to my next ballet adventure.

Now, I'll admit, there wasn’t a horse-drawn carriage to be found in Darlington, so the railway station it was! (Although, if you’ve got a fancy steed just waiting for a dance trip, hit me up!) I arrived just in time for a little picnic in the park. It was picture perfect, even better than my usual packed sandwiches and pink grapefruit - Darlington’s park has these incredible, huge cherry blossom trees! Honestly, the pink blossoms were practically screaming for me to do a pirouette amongst them. And I, of course, obliged!

And let's be honest, what is a trip without the perfect attire? This time, I decided to swap my signature pink tutu for a vibrant, crimson one. It’s so fitting for the passionate red of a cherry blossom, don’t you think?

The day wouldn’t have been complete without a ballet class, so off I went to Darlington's finest dance school! We had a real hoot learning new moves, all with a pink and red colour scheme. I was totally in my element, teaching the class a few steps from my own repertoire!

Now, I can't say Darlington was quite the theatrical hub that London is, but that doesn't mean I couldn’t find my fix! I happened upon a quirky little play in the town centre, which, believe it or not, involved ballet. And, to top it off, the director used a red curtain for a dramatic exit! I mean, how perfectly aligned could it be? It’s like the universe was speaking to me through theatre.

This town was surprisingly rich in wildlife, too! The most enchanting little creatures dotted the parks. Honestly, their agility was incredible, as was their sense of style! It almost felt as though they were taking their own dance classes amidst the trees! They totally inspired my new ‘Furry Ballerinas’ ballet routine (don't worry, it involves zero animals!). I may even incorporate this routine into my next show. What do you think?

I was delighted to spot a family of squirrels scampering along a wall. Talk about nimble feet, their quick hops and graceful landings were the envy of any ballet dancer, even myself. I could imagine a whole troupe of squirrel ballerinas, all in little red tutus, pirouetting amongst the branches. And then there was a blackbird, singing so beautifully as it perched on a branch, I thought I'd heard an angel. I knew it was just a little bit of Darlington magic, but I really did think he was serenading me with a symphony of pink and red (that’s a joke - you can't really do a symphony of colours!)

Now, I’ll let you in on a secret: my heart truly lies in the ballet street performance. Imagine dancing with the world as your stage! Every surface, every cobblestone, is your dance floor. It’s liberating, free-flowing, and entirely unforgettable. I just can't get enough! And Darlington didn’t disappoint. I couldn’t resist the urge to slip into my red tutu and bust out a few moves for anyone passing by. I can’t tell you how many smiles I got from complete strangers, and trust me, those smiles were enough to keep me pirouetteing through the afternoon!

And because Darlington is known for its cheese, I finished my day with the perfect pink-tutu treat: a delectable pink-coloured dessert, full of delicious cherries and cream cheese, just for my taste buds (I love all things cherry and cheese!) Honestly, even a ballerina can indulge every once in a while!

But what would my blog post be without a dose of the “Emma touch”?

Darlington, my lovely town, thank you for a whirlwind of wonder, of pink tutus, cherry blossoms, red velvet curtains, and unexpected ballet joy. Now, I need to ponder where my little feet shall take me next. Should I embark on another train journey or should I go back to the stables to find a faithful steed?

What would YOU like to see? Tell me your wildest ballet dreams and we'll explore them together. After all, spreading the magic of ballet (and tutus!) is my mission! Until next time, stay sparkly!

Love always,

Emma xox
