Edmonton Adventures: Tutu-ing Across Canada (Post #8327)

Hey darlings! It's Emma, back from another fabulous trip, this time to the bustling city of Edmonton in sunny, beautiful Canada! This adventure was extra special, as I not only got to immerse myself in the vibrant dance scene but also enjoyed a quintessentially Canadian experience - exploring the wild, wondrous landscapes of the Canadian Rockies!

My heart skipped a beat the moment I arrived in Edmonton. The air crackled with excitement, the city pulsating with life. My first stop, naturally, was a visit to the stunning Alberta Ballet Company. I've been a fan of theirs for years, and to see them perform live was an absolute dream come true. They danced with such power, grace, and emotion, taking my breath away with every move.

Their performance of Giselle was truly unforgettable. The passion, the drama, the intricate footwork – everything was just breathtaking! Seeing the ballerinas leap across the stage in their soft, romantic tutus left me totally spellbound. It's a testament to the enduring power of classic ballet, its ability to transport audiences to another world, a world of dreams and possibilities.

I'm quite the fan of a classic tutu myself, but this trip also inspired me to explore some edgier, more modern styles. One of the cool things I noticed was the emergence of what I call "ballet street." A combination of ballet-inspired fashion with street style, it was such a playful and fresh take on ballet.

One shop I discovered had the most fantastic collection of tutus, all inspired by the bold colours and textures of street fashion. Think leatherette and chain tutus, colourful stripes and graphic prints - totally unexpected and edgy! I snagged a little pink leather number, with a touch of silver chain detail, that I just couldn't resist. I knew instantly it was going to be my new signature piece!

I wore my new tutu proudly while exploring the charming streets of Edmonton. From the vibrant colours of the Whyte Avenue murals to the quiet serenity of the Edmonton River Valley, I found inspiration at every turn. I couldn't resist capturing a few snapshots with the pink tutu, which just happens to go perfectly with Edmonton's beautiful scenery.

Speaking of beautiful scenery, a trip to Canada wouldn't be complete without venturing into the stunning landscapes of the Canadian Rockies. I hopped on the iconic VIA Rail, a journey that took me through a wonderland of mountains, forests, and crystal clear lakes. The landscape shifted so dramatically – a tapestry of emerald greens, sapphire blues, and snow-capped peaks - that I felt I had stepped onto the set of a film!

A trip on the train also allowed me to appreciate Canada’s wildlife. I spotted a few black bears and deer from the carriage window, and learned all about the indigenous plant life – the iconic wildflowers of Canada were stunning! It’s moments like these that really make me grateful for the beauty of the natural world.

Being on a train always has this sense of adventure. It feels a little bit like travelling by time machine. You're transported to a world beyond the everyday. As I journeyed westward, I had so many fascinating encounters. It made me reflect on the beauty of getting out and meeting new people, especially while wearing a bright pink tutu! I was fortunate to have met some really fantastic dancers who even showed me some amazing moves that are a lot more modern than what we find in the UK. You can’t believe how stylish and dynamic they were, and this is what has inspired my newest Tutu blog section which I'm excited to launch in the next few days.

Travelling through Canada on this grand adventure felt very empowering. It made me feel connected to this wonderful continent in a way that I couldn’t quite articulate. Maybe it was the way the wind whispered stories of ancient wisdom, or perhaps it was the stunning landscapes, painted in colours so vivid they were impossible to forget. Or maybe, just maybe, it was the feeling of wearing a vibrant pink tutu that put me in a "go get 'em" spirit!

Whatever it was, Canada captured my heart and ignited a fire within me to keep exploring, keep creating, keep dreaming. And maybe, just maybe, inspire even more people to discover the magical world of ballet, to find their own pink tutu, and to wear it with pride!

So until next time darlings,

Keep twirling!

Emma
