Uxbridge: A Pink Tutu Pilgrimage (Post #8348)

Hey darlings! Emma here, reporting live from Uxbridge! Yes, you read that right, Uxbridge! Not quite the grandest of destinations, I grant you, but hey, this gal isn't afraid of a bit of adventure - especially when it involves a pink tutu.

You see, Uxbridge has a little secret: it's home to the most stunningly beautiful theatre! The Brunel does take a bit of finding - nestled in the heart of a modern, well... modern retail complex. The modern bit is really not my scene. Unless you count modern shops as *an opportunity for spotting potential new pink tutu locations which I do.

After parking my chariot - in this case, the humble train - and being almost trampled by an eager throng of mothers and children headed to the "kids go free" morning film (more on this later), I braved the seemingly endless expanse of not Pink Tutu territory to reach my ultimate destination. And wow, what a destination!

The Brunel Theatre is not your usual drab brick building. It's a quirky architectural delight with stained glass windows and soaring ceilings. The second I stepped through the door, it felt like stepping into another world. This is definitely the kind of venue where a Pink Tutu would feel perfectly at home!

Ballet on the Brink

But why was I in Uxbridge, in a pink tutu, of all places? Because I had tickets to a ballet performance, naturally! This little beauty was part of the Uxbridge Ballet Festival and was performed by the delightful North Thames Ballet - a fantastic group with an inspiring story to boot.

The evening's program showcased a fascinating range of work from this up-and-coming company - a real mix of contemporary and traditional styles. The final piece, a reimagining of the classic "La Sylphide," was simply breathtaking! The dancers, so effortlessly graceful, literally brought the story to life right before our eyes - it was as if they had cast a magical spell on the audience, transforming everyone in the room. I swear I heard someone sniffling during the emotional crescendo of the performance, - the music was so hauntingly beautiful.

You might be thinking "Emma, what about that 'kids go free' film?" and well, you would be right. I can't write a Pink Tutu Blog post without some child-related fun now, can I?

After a delicious, girly tea party - of course the most divine pinkest-hued cupcake imaginable was part of my spread - I headed off to the cinema with the little ones. My friends had a ball watching a modern animated film, I...I may have been fantasising about tutus for the upcoming "The Nutcracker" that we had bought them tickets to. The 'kids go free' offer may not have been strictly meant for this dance-crazed lady, but as the girls exclaimed about their excitement, I confess, it made my little heart swell with the same kind of joy.

This little trip, just a few train stops away from Derbyshire, reminds me just how much amazing stuff there is to find in the UK. Even the most unexpected of places can surprise you with incredible artistry and the magic of dance! It makes me realise how essential these smaller theatres are to nurturing local talent. If there is ever any opportunity for Pink Tutu to sponsor them, then the Brunel Theatre will definitely be first on my list!

But that's enough about me for now. I want to hear from you, lovely people! Did any of you have an exciting day out today, too? Share your stories in the comments, and tell me, what's the most unexpected place you've encountered beauty? As always, don't forget to sprinkle a little Pink Tutu magic wherever you go - maybe wear one? And now, darlings, off I go. More pink tutu adventures await.

Keep sparkling!

Love, Emma x
