Castleford Calling! 🩰💖

Hey darlings, it's Emma here, your pink tutu-clad adventurer!

It's been a whirlwind week here in Derbyshire - I’ve been bouncing between rehearsals for the "Swan Lake" revival (can’t wait for that one to kick off next month, stay tuned!), and my little ballet classes for the beginners who are getting to grips with their plies and pirouettes. But this weekend, I felt a pull to escape the everyday, so I packed my trusty travel tutu (in, naturally, a delightful shade of blush pink!) and hopped aboard the train for a trip to Castleford!

You know, I love getting out and about exploring our beautiful country. There’s something magical about discovering new places, especially when you can wear your Tutu! This post is number 8412 (you’ll have to excuse my enthusiasm for number keeping, I’m all about precision and order!).

Castleford, nestled in West Yorkshire, is a town rich in history and charm. My favourite thing about this part of the world is the way history seems to weave its way through the present.

I always try to start my day with a dose of local flavour - whether it's indulging in a quaint cafe breakfast (my guilty pleasure - crumpets with a dollop of strawberry jam!) or chatting with the locals and getting the low-down on their favourite hidden gems. In Castleford, this meant stepping into a little teashop called "The Victorian Rose." Can you guess why it called me in? 😉

I had a delicious scone, dipped in clotted cream and jam, while planning the day’s activities. Let’s just say that Castleford’s heritage didn't disappoint! The imposing ruins of Pontefract Castle stood as a stark reminder of the town's medieval past. Wandering through its ivy-covered walls, I couldn't help but imagine the tales these stones had witnessed.

Of course, I can’t resist getting my pirouettes in! 💃 I spun through the castle courtyard, letting the crisp air invigorate my spirit. You know what, Castleford could be an amazing place to hold an open-air ballet performance! It had an elegant feel, with those medieval ruins adding a touch of mysterious grandeur. Perhaps it's something to ponder on…

For lunch, I snagged a delightful table at the quirky cafe called "The Crooked Spoon." They serve amazing organic fare (a vegan option for me, a vibrant vegetable curry - absolutely delightful!) that truly resonated with my love for good food, wholesome ingredients, and vibrant colours! My favourite bit was their little fairy garden tucked away in the corner. It’s my dream to have a garden where my favourite flowers bloom all year round. Imagine! It’s definitely going to be one of my next creative projects!

The afternoon led me on a delightful journey to the serene grounds of Castleford’s "Fairfax Park." I took a leisurely walk along the winding pathways, appreciating the vibrant summer blooms and the symphony of birdsong. I even spotted a playful squirrel chasing a butterfly - how adorable!

That little encounter, watching a little wild creature scampering in nature’s theatre, reminds me just how important our connection to the natural world is.

If you're like me and enjoy wildlife, the "Xscape" entertainment complex is worth a visit. I spent a fun afternoon exploring their tropical rainforest with their amazing exotic bird displays. Their Amazonian macaw was simply mesmerizing. Oh, the colour of his feathers! You’ve got to see them for yourselves. It was amazing watching him dance and chatter away to anyone who walked past! 🦜

That evening, I found myself at "The Wheatsheaf," a charming traditional pub for dinner. What’s better than a good old fashioned pub dinner? Not much, let me tell you! I enjoyed a hearty, comfort food of chicken pie. Now, that’s a taste of Britain, isn’t it? 😊

But the highlight of my trip had to be the breathtaking sunset I witnessed at Castleford's waterfront. As the sun dipped below the horizon, painting the sky in hues of pink and purple, I knew I'd never forget this moment. And as a ballet dancer who’s head-over-heels in love with the colour pink, this sunset really was a magical, magical moment! 💖

Before I knew it, it was time to hop back on the train for Derbyshire.

Castleford, you stole a piece of my heart! It was full of historical charm, captivating wildlife, and friendly faces. This trip reminded me of my childhood; those carefree, adventures when imagination reigned supreme and a pink tutu made everything feel magical.

If you’re thinking of taking a break, I highly recommend a trip to Castleford. It's truly a little gem hidden away.

Now, remember everyone - wear pink! Be fabulous, dance with joy, and never stop dreaming big.

Until next time, darlings!
