Walkden Wonderland: Tutu Travels and Train Journeys

Hello my lovely lot! It's Emma here, and it feels like forever since I last graced you with a little pink-tutu magic. But fret not, my darling dance devotees, for I'm back with a brand new adventure - and, as you might have guessed from the title, it involves a tutu, a train journey, and a sprinkle of fairy dust!

You see, this week I embarked on a rather enchanting trip to Walkden, a charming town just outside Manchester, to catch a wonderful performance by the esteemed Northern Ballet Theatre. Oh, how I do adore a ballet! And a ballet theatre performance is simply something else, a whirlwind of emotion, artistry, and pure physical grace that sets my soul alight.

But before I reveal all the thrilling details of the show itself, let's take a moment to appreciate the journey that got me there. Oh, how I love a good train ride! The gentle rumble of the wheels, the views whizzing by, the ever-so-slight swaying, and the quiet chatter of fellow passengers - it's the perfect backdrop for a bit of dreamy daydreaming, and for me, that always means conjuring up images of twirling through a magical ballet land, dressed in the most magnificent pink tutu.

This particular train ride was extra special, though, because I had on my brand-new, super sparkly pink tutu - you know, the one I'd been coveting for weeks! It's the kind of tutu that just begs to be seen, so I wore it with pride, channeling a touch of mischievous fairytale magic for my fellow travellers. I think I saw a few smiles - and possibly even a little envy in some of their eyes! (It happens all the time!)

Now, back to Walkden. This town is an absolute gem! Bustling with life, bursting with local character, and, if you're lucky enough to visit on a Saturday, it hosts a truly charming farmers' market. Sadly, I only had time to grab a delicious freshly baked croissant, but I did manage to squeeze in a little impromptu wildlife watching by the canal - I saw a whole family of swans gliding majestically along, and I can tell you, that’s enough to make any heart happy!

Speaking of things that make me happy, the Northern Ballet Theatre performance was truly breathtaking. From the first delicate flutter of a ballerina’s foot to the final sweeping bows, the performance transported me to a world of ethereal beauty and sheer skill. They performed a rendition of “Giselle,” and the combination of captivating storytelling, the hauntingly beautiful music, and the performers' technical mastery simply left me awestruck.

And don’t even get me started on the costumes! There were glittering golds, velvety blacks, and, of course, the most fabulous white tutus - they even inspired me to think of my own little ballet number. I'm telling you, after a trip to the ballet, inspiration just seems to flow. The entire performance was a feast for the eyes and soul, a reminder that the human body can achieve such breathtaking beauty.

As I boarded my homeward bound train, I couldn't help but feel utterly enchanted by my whole adventure. It was the kind of day that makes you believe anything is possible, and the kind of day that inspires me to dream bigger and bolder. It reminds me that the world is a wonderful place, filled with beauty, grace, and a touch of magic.

My advice? Grab your favourite pink tutu, hop on a train (or saddle a horse, or take a flight - your choice!), explore, and lose yourself in a ballet show.

Until next time, stay fabulous and keep dreaming!

With a twirl and a wink,

Emma xx
