Brixton Calling! 🩰

#TutuBlog 8591

Hello darlings! It's your girl, Emma, from the hills of Derbyshire, coming at you live from the bustling streets of Brixton. This little London neighbourhood is like a giant candy shop – all colourful characters, street art bursting at the seams, and a soundtrack of thumping bass and clanging buskers.

This week I've been busy bee-ing around London for a gorgeous ballet tour of "Swan Lake" with the National Ballet. Oh, you guys, it was SO dreamy. We watched those delicate swan tutus float across the stage – I had to practically climb into my seat with all the feels. There's nothing quite like the feeling of live performance. It makes my heart sing! You can check out my Insta stories (@tutuemma) for some sneak peeks of the amazing costumes and those mind-blowing pirouettes.

Pink-tutu'd & ready to roll!

Today I decided to embrace the Brixton vibe by ditching my usual train ride and riding the streets on the back of a handsome cab driver's trusty steed - a classic black taxi. You bet I looked utterly fabulous, a pink tutu swishing as I went, waving to passing cars like the queen I am!

Our journey started in the Brixton Village, an enchanting maze of quirky independent shops and artisan food stalls. I fell in love with a darling pink-tutu inspired shop selling homemade lavender soaps, handmade pottery with pink ballet dancers on them, and even a beautiful handcrafted wooden tutu necklace (obvs. I bought it – who needs diamonds?!). We continued to Market Row – such a sensory explosion of deliciousness, where I treated myself to a delicious vegan jerk chicken wrap (seriously good) and a little pot of mango and papaya fruit salad to add a bit of sunshine to my afternoon.

The ballet's out of bounds!

After stuffing myself silly on fruit and tasty treats, we took a wander around the famous Brixton Market. Such an exciting atmosphere - from street artists with vibrant paintings, reggae music thumping out from local bars, to live dancers with vibrant colours showing off their incredible talent (yes, of course, some of them were flaunting their ballet moves!).

It was so fun, so vibrant, so eclectic! The energy here is contagious – it feels like the kind of place where dreams are born and anything can happen. It’s such a unique melting pot of different cultures, with everyone finding a space for themselves. This neighbourhood was made for someone who lives in pink, twirls around a lot, and is all for expressing yourself in a unique way. I even managed to snag a darling little vintage tutu for £5 – I can’t wait to add some sparkle to my wardrobe back home.

From swan lakes to jungle nights!

Then came a total change of pace – I snuck off to London Zoo after my delicious Brixton adventure. Who wouldn't want to swap twirling for a wander through a beautiful park filled with exotic creatures? Let me tell you, a ballet dancer's gotta have her balance - it's a workout even just watching all these amazing animals! It's one of my absolute favourite things to do, to be able to be so close to animals that are so different from us, to see how majestic they are in their own natural habitats. I even got to watch a lion couple having a little afternoon snuggle - aww!

A day in Brixton... it’s a pink, pink, world!

My trip to Brixton wasn't just a little adventure, it was a celebration of everything I love – colour, dance, creativity, and an unashamed embrace of everything fabulous! There’s a reason I made this place my first stop in this city, it was a true pink-tutu lover's paradise! There are amazing things happening all over the city, and I'm so excited to be sharing my adventures with you. I've fallen in love with this neighbourhood! It has a vibrant, bold energy that's completely unique – like a rainbow bursting to life!

Next time you’re looking for somewhere a bit different but fun and welcoming, don’t miss out on Brixton – trust me on this, darlings! It will be love at first sight, I just know it.

So until next time, happy dancing!

Emma xo
