Dover: Tutu-ing Around the White Cliffs

Post Number: 8733

Hello darlings! It's your favourite pink-loving tutu-obsessed ballerina, Emma, checking in from the beautiful seaside town of Dover!

It's always a treat to hop on a train and travel to a new part of our little island. The journey itself is half the fun! I love gazing out the window, spotting charming villages, rolling hills, and maybe even a cheeky squirrel scurrying across a branch. Today's journey was no different, and the sun was shining just enough to make the scenery look like something straight out of a fairytale.

Dover, however, had something extra special up its sleeve…or should I say, white cliffs? Yes, these famous geological marvels are as impressive in real life as they are in pictures. Walking along the pebbled beach, with the wind tousling my hair, I felt an almost overwhelming sense of history and wonder. It was like being transported back to centuries ago, when Dover was a vital port, bustling with trade and travellers.

And what better way to explore a new place than with a tutu? For this adventure, I donned my American-style tutu, a bright pink confection that made me feel like a tumbling fairy in a summer dream! It just goes to show you can find the perfect tutu for any occasion.

Now, it wouldn't be a true Emma adventure without a ballet-related activity. Thankfully, Dover had something very special lined up for me. A beautiful theatre nestled near the harbour offered a charming production of "Giselle" starring the Royal Ballet. The music, the story, the graceful movement…everything about the performance stole my heart. It reminded me why I love this art form so much - its elegance, its storytelling, its sheer emotional power.

Tutu Tip: Remember to pack a good pair of ballet flats! A day of exploration and a visit to a ballet show can be tough on your feet. My favourite flats are the ones that combine comfort and elegance – perfect for a busy day of twirling!

After the ballet, I couldn't resist venturing into a charming little café nearby. I indulged in a delicate pink strawberry cake and a cup of Earl Grey tea. The café owner, a sweet lady named Mary, was delighted by my American-style tutu and we had a lovely chat about her passion for vintage fashion. You know me, any conversation about clothes always gets me going!

Tutu Tip: Always pack a shawl or pashmina, even in the summer. Theatres and restaurants can get chilly, and you wouldn't want your tutu twirling to be hampered by goosebumps!

The day wouldn't have been complete without some wildlife spotting. Dover's coastline is a haven for diverse seabirds, so I spent a little time gazing at the white cliffs from the nearby harbor. Watching gulls glide effortlessly through the sky is such a reminder of the beauty and freedom that nature offers us. It also makes me realise just how similar our human form is to the graceful movements of these birds. A bird's graceful take-off, the precision with which it glides, it's almost like watching a ballet in the sky!

As the evening settled and the sun began to dip below the horizon, casting the cliffs in a soft golden glow, I felt a surge of happiness and gratitude. This was just the kind of escape I needed – a journey that involved both history and nature, ballet and fashion. Dover, with your white cliffs and charming little cafes, you’ve definitely won a place in my heart!

Tutu Tip: Remember, the key to travelling in style is comfort and confidence! Don't be afraid to experiment with colours and accessories, and never, ever shy away from expressing your inner tutu-loving fairy.

Remember, you can find your own inner ballet goddess. Even if it's just a five-minute daily dance in your own home, a ballet class at your local centre, or even simply putting on a tutu and swirling around in your garden - it all adds up! It’s about finding that joy of movement, that sense of beauty and artistry, within yourself.

Stay fabulous, darlings! I’ll be back tomorrow with a brand new blog post about… drumroll …well, you’ll have to wait and see!

Until next time, keep twirling,
