Kendal Calling: Where the Tutus Met the Fells

Hello lovelies! Emma here, bringing you sunshine and tutus from the heart of the Lake District! It’s been a whirlwind of a week, and I wouldn’t have had it any other way. This time, I decided to swap the glitz and glamour of London for the breathtaking scenery of Kendal and a very special kind of performance: the Kendal Calling Festival!

Now, you know me, I can’t go anywhere without my signature pink tutu. Yes, it's the very same one I wore for the Royal Albert Hall performance last month! (Remember the dazzling diamond embellishments?!) I thought, “Why not bring a bit of sparkle to the Lake District?” You know I'm always one to push the boundaries and show the world that ballet can be anything and anywhere!

So, off I went on my trusty steed, Belle – she loves a good countryside adventure – and set off for a four-hour, picturesque journey to Kendal. As the train rumbled through rolling hills and charming villages, I couldn't help but dream about all the fun I'd have at the festival. Would I be doing a impromptu pirouette in front of a crowd? Maybe I'd even meet someone who'd try on a pink tutu for the first time! (If you're reading this, I'm still holding out hope!)

When I arrived in Kendal, the buzz of excitement was electrifying! Music filled the air, people were chatting excitedly, and everyone seemed to be bursting with life and joy. As I found my way to the festival grounds, my eyes were wide with wonder. The majestic Lake District mountains rose above the sprawling festival tents, their peaks reaching for the heavens like giant ballet dancers doing an elegant penché. I swear I heard a little melody echoing from those misty heights!

Tutus in the Wild

Before I dove into the music and mayhem of the festival, I just had to make the most of Kendal's breathtaking scenery. A brisk walk along the banks of the River Kent led me to a tranquil spot by the shimmering lake. There, beneath the majestic peak of Helm Crag, I found my inner peace…and a few squirrels! (One of them was wearing a very fetching acorn hat - I'm sure it'll be on my next blog post!). The serene beauty of the Lake District reminded me of the magic of ballet; both graceful and powerful, delicate yet resilient.

Back in the festival's hustle and bustle, the energy was electrifying! Bands I’d only dreamed of seeing played on stages adorned with psychedelic lights. People danced like they'd been waiting for this moment forever – their wild abandon echoed the joyous spirit of ballet. I couldn't resist twirling in the middle of a dance floor (with permission, of course!) My signature pink tutu really brought a smile to the crowd's faces, making the music even more exciting. I may have even inspired a few impromptu twirls, but shh…you didn’t hear that from me.

One thing I truly loved about the Kendal Calling festival was the community vibe. Everyone, from festival goers to musicians to volunteers, was just so happy and kind. I even caught up with some fellow ballet dancers who happened to be enjoying the festival – their love for the dance is a shared passion that always connects us. I made so many new friends that weekend, and you know, they’ve all promised to try out ballet. So maybe, just maybe, we’re already on the road to achieving my life’s dream: spreading the love of ballet all over the world!

Adventures in Nature

Beyond the music, Kendal Calling also offered some stunning adventures in nature. I decided to go for a hike to the top of the fell – that's what we call a hill here in Derbyshire! It was tough, especially with my tulle-laden outfit! I won't lie, I was gasping for breath at some points, but every breathtaking vista made it all worthwhile. Reaching the peak, I stood there, surveying the majestic landscape, the breeze playing with my tutu, and feeling truly grateful for all the beauty around me. It was a reminder that life is like a dance – sometimes you glide effortlessly, sometimes you stumble, but the journey is always full of surprises!

Oh, and let’s not forget the wildlife! I saw the most incredible red squirrels bounding through the trees! Their bushy tails, as graceful and elegant as a dancer's leg extensions, were just the best! They're a protected species here in the UK, so we have to treat them with care. Their presence just reinforced my belief that everything in nature has a unique elegance and rhythm, much like a ballet performance. You know, sometimes I think a graceful red squirrel leaps across the stage like the very best ballet dancers…and yes, I may be a little bit crazy.

* Kendal Calling, A Final Curtsy*

As I waved goodbye to the festival, my heart was full. The journey was about more than just the music, more than just the stunning scenery – it was about the community spirit, the celebration of life, and the pure joy of being surrounded by nature and art. And, of course, a whole lot of pink tutus! Kendal Calling truly reminded me that there's magic everywhere you go, if only you have the courage to look for it.

So, what's my biggest takeaway from this incredible adventure? You don’t need a grand stage to showcase your talent, or a grand outfit to express your individuality. Life is your stage, your tutu is your personality, and the world is your audience. So go out there, twirl, jump, and live your life to the fullest! Don’t forget, it’s never too late to discover your inner ballet dancer. Now, who’s up for a graceful waltz?

Keep on twirling, Emma

P.S. Don't forget to follow me on social media, and join me at the next ballet performance – I have some surprises planned! Oh, and let's start a pink tutu revolution! Share your own #pinktutumovies with the world! You know I want to see every single one of them. Until then, stay tuned for more adventures and inspiration right here on www.pink-tutu.com
