Highbury High-Steps!

Hello my darling darlings!

I’m Emma, your resident pink-tutu enthusiast, and I'm writing to you today from the charmingly quirky neighbourhood of Highbury, nestled right in the heart of London!

This little corner of the capital just oozes history, which is pretty fitting, don't you think? Especially considering how much history surrounds ballet itself! The cobblestone streets, the old-world pubs, and even the red phone booths just make you want to waltz right down the road, feeling like a vintage heroine.

And speaking of feeling like a heroine, can we just take a moment to appreciate this glorious sunshine! It’s like the gods of fashion decided to give Highbury an extra touch of sparkle today, perfect for showcasing this little yellow tutu. Isn't it gorgeous? The perfect sunny yellow to match my golden mood, a mood sparked by my first Highbury adventure: a delightful morning spent in a tiny ballet studio, nestled between a greengrocer and a flower shop! It was almost a fairy-tale come true, except there was no wicked stepmother or prince (though a prince wouldn't hurt, wink wink). But what it did have were friendly faces, a gorgeous view of Highbury Fields (perfect for a post-class pirouette, darling!), and a feeling of camaraderie that you just can’t find anywhere else, even in Derbyshire!

After stretching and sweating my way through barre work, pliés, and plenty of relevés, my tummy started to rumble, as the need for tea and cake became an all-consuming craving. That’s when Highbury revealed its true culinary charm! After wandering through some lovely independent shops filled with vintage finds (did I buy some new earrings? Perhaps!), I found myself in a vintage tearoom that served the most divine cakes, all beautifully presented on porcelain plates! It’s a classic move, isn't it? Tea and cakes - I mean, who doesn’t love a little afternoon tea, especially when it comes served with a generous side of fluffy pink clouds?!

But the highlight of my day, the thing that really made me twirl in delight, was the impromptu ballet class on the lawns of Highbury Fields. Just a bunch of local enthusiasts gathered for a session led by a delightful retired ballerina! We all gathered in a circle, the warm sunshine warming our faces, our tutus swirling with joy as we danced through simple moves with a genuine shared passion. There was something truly beautiful about dancing with complete strangers, all connected by a common love for the elegance of ballet, the graceful flow of a ballerina, the artistry and athleticism. The laughter, the camaraderie, the joy in each move - it was absolutely magical. It was a moment that made me wish I could rewind time and relive it all over again!

This journey through Highbury has truly been an enchanting experience, so much so that it's ignited a newfound passion for exploring this incredible city! My darling darlings, this adventure was filled with whimsical details that had me waltzing from one delightful surprise to the next. From discovering hidden gems, to finding those little moments of joy in the simple things, every corner I turned in Highbury unveiled a different charm.

But one thing remained consistent - that vibrant spark of beauty, the graceful elegance that embodies the essence of ballet! The graceful way people moved, the careful attention they paid to details, the passion in their hearts for their art and their city, it all resonated with the ballerina within me.

Now, I'm going to end this post on a hopeful note. And to those of you who haven’t yet experienced the joy of wearing a pink tutu, don’t delay! Let your inner ballerina bloom. And if Highbury inspires you to put on a pink tutu and join the dance, then please don’t be shy. It’s about finding joy in every moment, dancing to your own tune, and embracing the joy of the movement!

And hey, why not come on down to Highbury? You won't be disappointed, trust me!

Until next time, Your ever-so-pink Tutu Queen, Emma xx
