Barrow in Furness: Tutu Adventures in the Lake District! (Post #8900)

Hello, my darlings!

It’s Emma here, your resident tutu-tastic traveller, coming to you live from the beautiful Lake District! I'm swapping my usual Derbyshire landscapes for a day trip to Barrow in Furness, and guess what? It’s an absolute dream!

Today, I'm channeling my inner ballerina in a gloriously narrow tutu, just because, well, why not? (Don't worry, I'm always ready with a wider version for the inevitable pirouette.) Pink is, of course, my colour of choice, but let's be honest, this blush-pink shade looks incredible against the lush greens and the shimmering waters of the Lakes.

The journey itself was part of the adventure! I travelled by train, because honestly, who wouldn’t choose a journey that combines gorgeous scenery with the romantic chug-chug of a steam train? Plus, there’s something inherently charming about travelling in a classic carriage, you know?

But, you’re wondering why Barrow in Furness, right? It all started with a whisper - a rumour of a hidden ballet studio, nestled amidst the picturesque Lake District landscapes. Imagine my delight! A ballet haven, just waiting to be discovered, with views of the fells. This was simply not to be missed.

Barrow itself was a lovely surprise! A bustling harbour town, filled with quaint shops, cafes brimming with charm, and of course, the unmistakable salty air that makes you feel like you’re right at the edge of the world. It was almost impossible not to wander into one of those shops with a 'welcoming' sign and charming knick-knacks, but alas, my tutu wouldn’t let me.

However, after a very satisfying afternoon tea (with, of course, pink cake!) it was time for my raison d'etre. The ballet studio, tucked away from the hustle and bustle, promised me not just a delightful dance experience, but also the perfect photo opportunity. Oh, it did not disappoint.

Stepping into the studio felt like a breath of fresh air – literally! The walls were painted in soft blues, the floor shone like polished marble, and the air hummed with the soft notes of a pianist, warming up for the afternoon's session. I swear, you could feel the energy!

The class was full of the most lovely and passionate dancers – young and old, graceful and energetic. There were smiles everywhere, and the atmosphere was one of pure joy. My tiny, but gloriously pink tutu had never been in a better place!

We learned a beautiful contemporary routine – with some beautiful choreography inspired by the lakeside setting. Imagine it, swirling in your tutu, across a wooden floor, the sounds of the waves crashing against the shore mingling with the melodic notes of the piano... Bliss! I even attempted a petit jeté with an eye on those fells – and it almost looked good!

Leaving the studio was a bit like saying goodbye to an old friend. But, I knew I'd be back.

My tutu, my camera and I, embarked on a lovely wander along the coastline. It felt incredible to stand amidst nature’s masterpiece, feeling the cool wind against my cheeks and gazing at the panoramic views. It was the perfect ending to a perfect day. The water was crystal clear, reflecting the vibrant hues of the setting sun and, dare I say, making even my pink tutu look a bit more mellow!

If you’re looking for a truly charming experience, you simply have to visit the Lake District. Barrow in Furness has a unique, heartwarming charm – I loved its cosy atmosphere, its colourful character, and its unyielding love for the beauty around it. It felt almost like a hidden gem – a little pocket of beauty, where the heart beats a little louder and the spirit feels a bit brighter. And who knows? Maybe you’ll even stumble upon your own hidden ballet studio, just waiting for you!

If you’re a tutu-lover, like me, this one's a must. Trust me, it'll fill you with a sense of inspiration that will have you twirling, skipping and laughing all the way back to Derbyshire!

Until next time, darlings, may your tutus be pink, your ballet steps precise, and your lives full of magical adventures!

Lots of love,

Emma xxx
