Lancaster - A Stiff Tutu Adventure!

Hello darlings! Emma here, writing to you from the beautiful city of Lancaster, nestled in the heart of the Lake District! My love for travel and ballet knows no bounds, and this weekend I combined the two in the most magnificent way.

As usual, I hopped on the train - a luxurious vintage carriage this time - and journeyed through the scenic countryside. I do love a good train journey - it's the perfect time for people watching and composing my next blog post!

Arriving in Lancaster, I was immediately captivated by its charming streets and cobblestone alleys. Everywhere I looked, I saw quaint cafes, independent boutiques, and the most beautiful bookshops. Of course, I couldn't resist picking up a little something special for my growing ballet book collection. (Who knew there were so many different styles of tutus?!).

I'd booked myself a little treat - a room at the Lancaster House Hotel. Let me tell you, darling, this hotel was divine. It felt like I'd stepped into a Jane Austen novel. It even had a delightful pink tea room where I enjoyed the most delicious cakes. What could be more delightful?

Pink, Pretty & Pointe Shoes

You all know my motto is "Every day is an opportunity to wear pink!" and today was no exception. My tutu (a little stiff but definitely fitting for the occasion) sparkled with silver sequins and felt perfectly at home against the backdrop of Lancaster's majestic castle. It's all about creating a stunning juxtaposition of styles!

Speaking of beautiful, I simply had to see the castle! This magnificent stone fortress stands tall, gazing across the Lune river and I couldn't help but feel a twinge of royal inspiration as I stepped across its grounds. I mean, who knows, maybe I'm descended from royalty and that explains my love of all things pink and glamorous.

Lancaster also has a charming promenade along the River Lune. I love the feel of fresh air on my face as I strolled by the river and the park, watching playful swans glide gracefully through the water. Just like us ballerinas, darling! (But, obviously, more graceful ahem.)

Balletic Delights

I just had to pop into the Lancaster Ballet Studio and see what the local dancers were up to. And it was amazing! They were performing "Swan Lake" and oh my, they were sensational! All those graceful leaps and pirouettes and not a single step out of place. You'd think they were born on pointe. Maybe I should move to Lancaster, take up a class and get my ballerina legs back in shape!

A Trip Through Time

My Lancaster adventure was just perfect, blending history, art, nature, and a good dose of ballet. If you're ever looking for a beautiful, culturally-rich, and inspiring city break, look no further!

Here are a few other must-dos if you ever find yourself in Lancaster:

  • Visit Williamson Park, home to an award-winning Japanese Garden, a pretty rose garden, a glasshouse, a watermill, and lots of wildlife. Oh and a great place for a leisurely walk and lots of opportunities to do a pirouette!
  • Step back in time and wander through the quirky and charming "Morecambe's Magic & Mirrorball", with its arcade of amusement mirrors.
  • Go see the incredible views of the coast, and the rolling hills beyond Morecambe Bay!
  • Treat yourself to an elegant afternoon tea at the aforementioned Lancaster House Hotel (They’ll happily whip up a pink, sparkly tea especially for you, darling).
  • If you're a vintage aficionado (or love tutus just as much as I do), head over to Lancaster's fabulous vintage market and find a gorgeous frock or accessory to compliment your own beautiful pink tutu.
  • See if you can catch a show at the Lancaster Grand Theatre (you'd be amazed what brilliant ballet productions they stage!).

Spread the Tutu Love

And to end this delightful blog, a reminder for you darlings! Keep those tutus sparkling, don't be afraid to embrace pink, and never lose your inner ballerina.

It's time to spread the love! I'd love to hear about your tutu adventures (you have been trying them out, haven't you?)! Leave me a comment on the website or find me on Instagram at @pinktutu. We can't be afraid to wear our tutus proudly, just like our inner joy and creativity!

Love and light,

Emma
