Rutherglen: Tutu Treats! (Blog Post #8990)

Hey lovely lot! It's your favourite tutu-wearing, pink-loving Emma, bringing you all the latest from my whirlwind ballet adventure. Today, my travels took me to the charming town of Rutherglen, nestled in the heart of Scotland. I had a fabulously girly day planned, filled with twirls, delicious eats, and a little bit of local history too!

Now, you all know my love for a good train journey. I find the rhythmic clickety-clack of the tracks so soothing and a great opportunity to enjoy a bit of downtime before arriving at my destination. As usual, I sported my trusty pink tutu - it’s perfect for train travel. There's something about its flowy nature that seems to embody the spirit of travel. This time, though, I took things a step further. To celebrate Rutherglen's rich culinary history, I donned a tutu adorned with delicate edible treats! I envisioned sugary blossoms, frosted cherries, and tiny macarons, adding a playful touch of sweetness to my usual look. (You know me, I always try to find a way to add a little sprinkle of whimsy!)

The journey was delightful, with fellow passengers admiring my unique tutu and inquiring about my next ballet adventure. I chatted away about my love for all things ballet, from my daily class to my passion for promoting ballet for all. I’m telling you, once people get chatting about their passions, you never know where the conversation might lead. I reckon I must have spread a little pink-tutu magic in my travels today!

Upon arriving at the station in Rutherglen, I couldn’t help but notice a charming local artisan market just outside. It seemed to be the perfect spot for finding all kinds of goodies. I’d planned to incorporate local delights into my food-themed tutu for a truly unique look. And oh, what goodies I found! From handmade cakes, with their luscious swirls and colours, to melt-in-your-mouth caramels, each treat was a masterpiece in itself!

I spent ages carefully arranging my loot upon my tulle masterpiece, creating a miniature culinary ballet. It was quite the spectacle! The scent of sugar, baking spices and freshly picked fruit danced in the air, as did my pink-tutu ensemble. With each twist and twirl, I found myself imagining a grand finale to a ballet inspired by the delights I'd collected.

One of my favourite discoveries at the market was a little artisan bakery owned by a lovely lady called Mary. Now, Mary isn't your average baker; she's a true artist. She explained her love for creating delicate pastries inspired by the beauty of Scottish wildflowers. Oh, my! I felt myself swoon at her description. A petal-shaped meringue filled with fragrant honeysuckle cream – what's not to love?! It was too tempting to resist and I even persuaded her to add a few to my edible tutu collection! It was then, that I realised that ballet and food have a certain symbiotic relationship, both embracing artistry, creativity and a sense of magic.

After all that exploration and treat-scoping, my stomach started to grumble and my senses craved something hearty. Luckily, the locals directed me to a small pub nestled down a charming alleyway. They call it the 'Old Well,' and its worn stone facade suggested years of warm hospitality. I was eager to tuck in to a warming meal after a day on the go.

I opted for a traditional Scottish Haggis, a culinary gem. And you know what? It was the best haggis I've ever had! The perfect blend of spices, combined with mashed potato and vegetables – oh, what a joy to savor each mouthful! While I ate, I thought about how exciting it is to discover new places, experience local cultures and embrace the unexpected twists and turns along the way.

Leaving Rutherglen felt a bit like bidding farewell to a dear friend. This charming town held so much beauty, laughter, and delicious discoveries! I promise to come back and explore more, perhaps with a brand new food-inspired tutu!

I know many of you reading this dream of embracing a more daring, adventurous lifestyle – of wearing a pink tutu, or maybe even taking a leap and attending your first ballet class. It might feel a little daunting at first, but trust me, you can do it! Embrace your inner ballet goddess, step outside of your comfort zone, and let your heart take the lead. It's in those unexpected adventures, like a pink tutu in Rutherglen, where we discover our own unique flair.

So until next time, keep twirling, keep dreaming, and keep your pink tutus at the ready!

Love,

Emma x
