Today I’m waltzing into the wonderful world of Frome, Somerset. You see, my dear diary (aka you!), I’ve always had a thing for these charming, cobbled towns that whisper stories of bygone eras. And Frome is absolutely whispering… perhaps with a side of whimsical giggles thanks to the colourful stalls in the market and the cobbled streets buzzing with life.
The Journey: Pink Tutu On Board!
This morning, I skipped down the stairs of my little cottage in Derbyshire, grabbed my favourite bright pink leotard (the one with the sequins, naturally!), and sashayed out the door. This trip, I wasn’t even tempted to jump in the car. No, no, no, this journey was tailor-made for a gorgeous train ride. There’s something so magical about sitting by the window, the scenery whipping past, the rhythmic click-clack of the wheels, and feeling that thrilling sensation of leaving it all behind. And don't get me wrong - there’s plenty of room for a pink tutu on board!
The Pink Tutu Arrives: Frome's Got Moves
Frome welcomed me with open arms - or rather, with charming little shops, a fantastic farmers’ market, and enough gorgeous little cafes to last me a lifetime. After a delicious pastry and a latte (it's all about that balance of pink tutus and coffee!), I started my exploration.
First, let’s talk ballet, because what’s a blog about pink tutus without some dancing involved?! The town itself is like a giant dance studio! Every cobbled street, each charming shop doorway, and even the park that borders the river, felt like a ballet class waiting to happen. I caught myself pirouetting along, sensing a magical plié with every cobblestone.
The highlight though? It’s the Frome Fringe Festival, a fantastic, swirling kaleidoscope of talent where creativity just explodes! From theatrical street performances that had the whole audience enthralled to a magnificent display of colourful ballet in the town hall, Frome felt alive with music, colour, and sheer energy. I danced alongside them all, of course, and yes, my pink tutu did cause a small sensation. People were snapping pictures!
The Unexpected Sidekick: Wildlife Encounters in Frome
As I wandered down the cobbled alleyways of Frome, I discovered something beautiful… a sweet little wildlife sanctuary, tucked away from the bustle. They call it the Frome Valley Wildlife Rescue and Education Centre. Now, you all know I'm a total softie when it comes to animals, and the sight of rescued birds chirping their joyful songs melted my heart. There was a family of rabbits hopping about, and even a little deer.
The kind, caring folks there gave me a lovely little tour. They work so hard to nurture and rehabilitate these precious creatures. It was such an inspiring sight and so close to the heart of Frome. It felt so harmonious – the beauty of the animals and the energy of the town, weaving together this tapestry of loveliness.

So, what can I say about Frome? It's a perfect blend of sweetness and strength with a sprinkle of whimsy and creativity. The cobbled streets seem to hold the past and the present in a joyful embrace, with nature’s wild spirit whispering tales in every nook and cranny.
Frome, my darling, I know that anyone could find themselves falling in love with your charm. I certainly did! You left me wanting to twirl a little bit more, explore a little further, and wear a little bit more pink tutu. That’s the real magic of Frome.
