Hornchurch Bound, Tutu Stiff & Ready to Pirouette!

#TutuBlog - Post 9133

Oh darling, it's Monday morning and already my inner ballerina is shimmying with excitement. This week is going to be bursting with twirls and tiaras (no, not literally!…though I do love a tiara, darling!).

Today's adventure is a little bit different though, because while I normally love a good whirl on stage or in class, I'm taking the journey 'outside the box' with a visit to Hornchurch. And I don't just mean for a lovely afternoon tea at some grand manor house, though I wouldn't say no to that either! No darling, I'm headed for a rather wonderful experience - a ballet performance by the amazing Royal Ballet at the Queen's Theatre. Now, if there's one thing better than a tutu, it's a whole troupe of ballerinas all twirling around in their tutus - a magnificent, ethereal vision of movement and grace.

Before I go any further, let's take a quick look at what I'm sporting for the day, because, let's face it, an outfit like this requires a full reveal! Today's choice? My beloved pink tutu, of course, and not just any pink, oh no, it's the 'tutti frutti' version, all ruffled and bursting with juicy, pink layers like the inside of a strawberry ice cream sundae! Now, for the top, I'm channeling the elegance of Audrey Hepburn - a delicate, blush-toned top, paired with some sleek black heels. I call it 'dancing through history' because who needs a time machine when you can achieve historical chic through style!

Okay, back to Hornchurch! As ever, I'm going by train. I can't deny it - trains are simply divine! You get to admire the beautiful countryside - particularly when you pass the magnificent Derbyshire fields with the sheep grazing under the sun! Just as a good dancer needs to be light on her feet, so too a good traveller needs to find the magic in any journey - which includes appreciating the wild side. Even though I'll be at the ballet in a few hours, the spirit of nature always accompanies me, and the thought of watching those graceful swans by the pond in the park down the road is bringing a touch of peaceful elegance to the anticipation of today's journey.

A good journey for any dancer always starts with the right mindset - and a bit of light dancing music to set the tone, of course. I love blasting my favourite ballerina playlist – from the classic Tchaikovsky to modern ballet-inspired tracks - and humming along to every song. Even though I’m sitting on the train, my toes are already tapped, my hips are swiveling, and I'm even thinking about the warm-up before class (which I’m definitely fitting in tomorrow!). Because, if we can keep the passion for dance and for beautiful, exciting things alive, our hearts will forever be tapping out our favourite rhythms, even on journeys far from the studio!

Finally, reaching Hornchurch, it’s time to go inside the beautiful, grand theatre - with a sense of magic that's like stepping straight into one of those delightful classic films with the dazzling lights, the sparkling chandeliers, and the whispers of theatregoers and applause echoing around me. It’s the kind of feeling you can only truly get when you enter a special space, an area designed to embrace the energy of performing arts, to hold its breath and appreciate each step and turn on the stage!

It's going to be such a joy to watch those amazing dancers perform, and to experience their love for this art form reflected back at us from the stage! It always makes me so happy when I'm sitting in the audience watching other people's passion blossom - in particular when I see someone discover their passion for ballet for the first time. That look on their faces when they're captivated, a sense of absolute wonder shining in their eyes as they realise the majesty of what they're experiencing - that is why I love sharing my love of dance with anyone who wants to be part of the journey. It's such a great gift!

And as always, if you are a budding ballet star and want to step into your own amazing, life-affirming tutu, I encourage you to come along! My TutuBlog exists to help everyone discover the magical, fun, inspiring world of ballet. Remember, life's just like a ballet! It's a constant journey, an amazing adventure, and you are a part of it.

So, what have you got planned for today? Do you have any favourite tutus, or a perfect pink you just have to own? Let me know! Don't be shy, darlings, there are no tutus too big or too small, no ballet step too difficult, no journey too long or too short - let’s take a leap into a magnificent week together.

To a wonderful week ahead!

See you tomorrow!

Emma
