Wellington Wanderings in a Green Tutu (Post #9279)

Hello lovelies! It’s Emma here, back with another post from my whirlwind adventure around the globe, this time with a little stop off in the vibrant city of Wellington!

Now, Wellington might not be the most obvious destination for a pink tutu-clad girl like me, but honestly, this city won’t let you down. It's got the coolest, hippest, most laid-back vibe - just the kind of place to unwind after a particularly rigorous rehearsal (or even just a crazy morning of tutu shopping!)

You see, dear readers, this trip was all about ballet, and not just the kind in a beautiful, well-lit theatre. Wellington’s a haven for all things dance! I spent my days dancing on cobbled streets, exploring the quirky, bohemian cafés (yes, you guessed it, one of them was a glorious pink!) and indulging in ballet workshops, just to keep those pirouettes perfect!

Let's talk about this green tutu! It was a gift from my dear friend Fiona (you remember her from the Edinburgh Ballet Festival, the one who wears those stunning lime green leg warmers). I decided to ditch my usual pinks and embrace a splash of nature for my Wellington adventures. This tutu is absolute magic, with its emerald green fabric and silver sequins that catch the light just so, creating a shimmery, enchanting effect. I'm thinking I might even break out a lime green scarf next time...

This green wonder really brought out the greenest city I've ever visited! Seriously, Wellington is a veritable symphony of emerald trees, verdant hills and a sea of bright green water. This green oasis truly felt like a haven from the concrete jungles I’ve been used to lately!

Speaking of havens, I must mention the incredible wildlife here. Wellington has got so many seabirds - puffins, oystercatchers, cormorants - I could watch them all day! My favourite had to be the colony of albatrosses - such magnificent birds with a captivating, almost otherworldly, presence. Just the thought of those majestic wings flapping across the endless sky sends a flutter through me… almost like a feeling of pure joy from the dance.

I'd love to share a little peek into my ballet discoveries here in Wellington. My favourite moment? The "Dancing on the Docks" workshop. Picture this: dawn light breaking over the sparkling harbour, the smell of salt and seaweed, a mix of graceful ballet moves and the most inspiring dance instructors, all set against the stunning backdrop of a cargo ship - and there we were, a gaggle of tutued dancers (a couple of pink ones snuck in!), creating beauty out of every move. I'd love to tell you more but, hey, wouldn’t want to give away too many secrets from this haven for dance enthusiasts, would we?

You’ll be delighted to hear that this entire trip was made even more delightful thanks to my faithful horse, Winston. That's right, my darling readers, Wellington has the most beautiful stables offering horse-drawn carriages, and I took advantage of this absolutely romantic way to see the city. There's something about Winston’s majestic gait, the gentle swaying motion, the gentle clippity-clop of his hooves against the cobblestones that just brings a calm to my soul, a sense of magic and elegance that echoes the beauty of ballet itself. It’s all just so beautifully… well… pink!

I must admit, though, I couldn’t help but feel a little homesick for the Derbyshire countryside, a yearning for rolling green hills and a gentle stroll through my own beloved village. But as I sit here, reflecting on the sights, sounds and the soul of Wellington, a little grin tugs at my lips… this city is really quite remarkable, full of its own vibrant energy and creative spirit, an absolute delight that left me wanting to pirouette through every street and experience every magic that it held.

Until next time, my dears!

Remember, stay tuned for more adventures, keep wearing those tutus, and always remember that life, just like ballet, is all about passion, joy, and a whole lotta twirling!

Emma
